Afraid to drive long distances

FWIW, over the course of my admittedly limited 38 years of driving, and hundreds of thousands of miles, I have circled the country (USA), made it up into Canada several times and zig zagged all over the western United States in and on a variety of cars and motorcycles. The only tire problem I have experienced in all those trips was a bulging side wall on a Ford Thunderbird.
Both of my motorcycle tire flats were discovered in my garage before the next trip, both car tire flats happened either going to and coming home from work and the one boat trailer flat happened right near an off-ramp with a huge Chevron station lot for me to change it in.
I think it is a great idea to be prepared for flats (as well as other problems) but the thought will not keep me from traveling.

No worries here. I carry a satellite phone, flare gun, CB radio, ham radio, police radio, and an air horn, and never leave home without a chase car.

Before my next trip which may take me outside cell phone range, a front wheel/tire from whichever seasonal set is not currently mounted will be in the back seat, if it fits, and a jack and wrench set will be on-board as well.

What if a meteor smashes into my car while I'm making a right hand turn in NC which is illegal because nascar country?
2 hours for roadside assistance is certainly an inconvenience in my first world life but I weigh that against mitigating that I'll need it and trying to load the car up with a tow trailer for every possible circumstance.

if your that concerned i would recommend replacing all tires with Run-flat tires, i had them on a BMW Z4 and Corvette and they are ok harder ride and a bit of following groves in road or tramline, i hear they are even better now, just another option....

i agree, but on a cold dark night, or cold dark snowy night and the tire pressure monitor indicates 10 PSI on a tire it gives you a big warm and fuzzy that you can continue driving at a reasonable speed for the next 50 miles or so. Knock on wood i've never had a "running flat tire" mine have been all slow leaks noticed the next morning in the garage
