Carfax- Demo car? First owner at 8k miles with no prior history.
Can you kind folks help? I searched and couldn't find much.
I'm looking at a non-CPO 2014 911. The first registered Carfax history shows that it was purchased in 04/16 but with 8k miles. There is no history prior to this on the Carfax.
I called Porsche NA and they say the warranty ends in 2018, implying that the warranty was first "punched" in 2014.
This does not add up to me.
Does this mean that it's a demo? What happened the first 8k miles? Thoughts?
***See Post #20 for update. TLDR; Most likely a loaner/ demo car.

If PCNA states the end warranty date, then the warranty was punched 4 years before and does not mean the car was sold at that time. From my understanding the dealer may punch the warranty to show the car as sold in order to receive new allocations. Perhaps the car was a demo vehicle and never titled till the purchase date in 4/16.

I thought about that too, but how could a 2014 model have a warranty start date of 04/2012? I could see it having a start date in 2013, but not 2012.

VIN would help us

They punched the warranty in '14. It could have been a demo. The worst is when dealers list cars like that as "new"
Where are you getting 2012? The OP did not mention it being a CPO, just in case you were backing out six years from the warranty end date.

No cpo. It is being sold by a non-Porsche dealer. Porsche NA says that warranty was punched in 2014 and ends in 2018. First registration was in earlier this year- hope that clarifies.
Demo? If not what happened between 2014 and 2016? Why is the first registered event in 2016 with 8k miles.
Withholding the vin for now as it's a tentative purchase
Thanks for the input!

Was it ever serviced at any Porsche Dealer?
Do you know which dealer it was originally sold?
If so I would call those dealers directly.
Otherwise take the VIN to your local Porsche Dealer where you will be going for service, they maybe able to provide you history and any warranty work.

Probably a demo.
If you don't want to give out the VIN, there are several ways to get the build sheet using the VIN. Just google it (there's also a sticky in the Cayenne forum). That'll give you the original in service date.
