So I was originally planning to move to a 997C4S or 997TT in place of my classic 911 and DD vehicle which has AWD. One car to do everything. My buddy drove a 991 and told me I needed to get behind the wheel of one before making any decision. I drove one recently and loved it. It ticked every box I had: fast and stable yet comfortable, and the price on them isn't much more than 997s with the DFI. You guys that have them now are very lucky.

I did go to the dealer and drove a new 991.2 C2S Cab. It does feel like it has a little more power than the 991.1 (one reason I was looking at the Power Kit cars). But the depreciation hit on new cars is something I have trouble getting around. Plus to be honest I'd have to finance part of it and I prefer to not do that. I have been very comfortable buying cars 2-3 years old. You can get them with decently low miles (20-40K, I don't like garage queens), most of the niggling issues were worked out by the previous owner, and they're up to 30+% off MSRP. You have to be willing to accept what you get and know the car's not perfect, but I'm OK with that.

For me the one big advantage to buying new is taking factory delivery in Zuffenhausen. I think that would be really cool to do sometime.

Rob, are you doing any other mods while the engine's out or just the Power Kit?

Will do G! I do hope to post pics and share the mechanic's challenges and thoughts! I really like the dealer guy doing it and trust him or I would not be doing this. I am very excited about it. Merry Christmas to me!

Yes icing on the cake or getting ice cream with my cake! And eat it too! No doubt an expense and I would prefer a factory installed X51 but after talking to 2 others who did it and the dealership head mechanic doing my kit, I feel really good about it. Thx.

Seeing one can spend $10K on a set of wheels or an exhaust, this isn't really that bad of a project. If you get years of enjoyment out of it, well worth it.

Agreed. And by the time you sell your current car, take a bath, and get into a new car with factory fit X51.......suddenly that $11k doesn't seem THAT crazy.

So what is actually in the kit? What are they swapping out for $11k?

Modified cylinder heads (polished intake) is also included on the 991 power kit. And of
course that fancy carbon "engine cover" that says Exclusive Power Kit on it! LOL
