991.2 at Top Speed

Just as fun, but slower, is the 1988 911 in the high 130s...

Some mid 200s kph time in Germany, rented 991.1 4GTS. Around home I am more conservative, maybe touch 200 kph in a pass for a very short period of time. Get caught at those speeds and you can say good bye to the car for a week, and hello to a Judge.

Funny you should mention this. I plotted a graph from a 0 - top speed of a 981 and integrated time to get distance. It takes about 2 miles for a 981 Boxster BS. 911 probably about the same distance since higher top speed but more HP to offset. Speed increase tapers off as you approach the limit of course so you need a lot of distance.
I bet with a bit of thinking (have to figure if the relation is linear or what, I'm not feeling like thinking through it this Sunday morning) you could take the rated power and published coefficients of drag you to make pretty good time and distance estimates for most vehicles by ratioing your data.

This guy!
I have seen 145 mph a few times at the end of the main straight at Road America this summer in my 991.2 C4S PDK SC in Sport Plus.
There is room for that number but because the overtake speeds are so high at the end of the straight with most other cars and the braking is so powerful, i am still working on my braking point. There have been few opportunities to have no one in front of me on the main straight.
As the video shows, no problem for the car to do what Porsche says it will do!-Richard

If you do Euro Delivery, there are ample opportunities on the Nurburgring and Autobahnen to legally hit Vmax.

While tesing Launch Control I touched 120+ mph lightly on a lonely country road recently... Backed off as I wasn't on a track and ah speed limit was 65 mph! LOL

I have since touched 240kmph a couple of times, then nerves gave out because it's suicidal to do those speeds in traffic. Just as well, because the Panamera Turbo I was following nearly hit an elephant! The car itself was absolutely composed and gave no hint of the actual speed. Its when you get tunnel vision that you realise that you're too fast.

I went through this exercise because I wanted to get to the top speed during my European Delivery and needed to pick a spot on the autobahn that had straight aways that long. Graph is below. Sorry about the crappy screen shot. (The last forum deleted the image)
I only got to 160 mph. You can hear my wife screaming at me at the end to slow down..... Cars I am passing are going about 80 - 100 mph. Video starts off at about 125 mph.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sawKRYcRVw

If you're willing to risk your license, there are plenty of roads out west where you can safely explore the top speed of your 991.2. You need about five miles of straight, flat pavement, in good shape. A pre-run is not a bad idea.
You should also run two ways to equalize the wind effects and use some sort of GPS device to measure your speed, as I expect that the Porsche speedometer is off by 5 mph or so at the top end.
