Automobile fashion is prevalent even at Porsche!
A few years ago, silver/grey dials were a fashion in the auto industry.
My wife's 2011 XC70 speedo is just about impossible to read with a silver border containing the mph figues.
Before the 991.2 and 718, 981 S and 991 S models came with a center grey/silver tach dial.
I was going to specifically request Porsche Exclusive to put a black dial in my 991.2 C4S when I went to order it but noticed that the Configurator now had an 'Option Delete' for the dial to Black face.
It's perfect with all Black!-Richard

White dials here. Never had an issue in 37,000 miles of reading any of my gauges.

I went with Guards Red gauges and chrono in a Guards Red car and Racing Yellow gauges and chrono in a Racing Yellow car - couldn't be happier (note, they go black at night time).

Until we get HUD, I can honestly say I don't look much at the tach while I'm aggressively shifting my MT C2S. I'm looking out over the road/track. I might sneak a glance when I'm on a straight and certainly look at it when I'm just cruising and trying to determine while of the 7 gears most suits my mood ... but on aggressive driving I'm shifting based on sound and response.
But on topic, I've never had a problem quickly identifying engine speed during a quick glance at my grey tach.
