What's with the rear of this 4 GTS?
Saw this car on autotrader, it's a c4 GTS but it doesn't have the rear connection light in the middle, ie has the rear end of a 2 GTS.

Wow, I can certainly see swapping IN the light to a C2GTS, but not swapping it OUT from a C4GTS. The "return to lightbar look of 993" was the saving grace of the 2002 996 C4S, and I've really liked them ever since.
But I do really like the distinguishing feature of the black grill on the C2GTS, something that distinguishes it from regular C2 or C2S, so I can see a person wanting to wear the "GTS distinctive" rather than the "AWD distinctive."

Makes little sense. They would also have to replace rear grille to accommodate brake light! Costly exercise only to make it look worse IMO. Beautiful configuration with PCCB and Carmine Red but maybe that's just one of the reasons why it's so overpriced.

Actually, the rear grills are the same; if you need a 3rd brake light in it (as this one does) it pops in to the space between some of the fins. If you don't need it (as with the 4GTS or if you have a ducktail) there's a blanking plate that goes in place of the 3rd brakelight. But same grill either way.

That price is insane for a GTS here in Canada. Pass...

I started a recent thread about the compatibility of the rear center tail light with the non-4 GTS. The easy part is swapping the light out for the grill (to make a 4 look like a non-4). Swapping the 2 grill for the 4 light is also possible (an RL'er had his Porsche service department do it for him). The holy grail for me at the moment is figuring out what cable is necessary to connect the light to the car. The light (which can be bought on Suncoast) does not come with anything other than the light itself. As soon as I figure out what the connection is, I will pass the information along or better yet, if anyone with a 4-GTS or 4S has had a look-see back there and knows what goes from the light to the car, then please pass the information along as inquiring minds what to know!

Should simply be able to tie into brake lights.... no?
R_Rated - maybe, maybe not. I did some research this evening and it looks like the 2 and 4 GTS have the same rear tail light/license plate harness (part number 991-612-897-03). Perhaps there is a cable coming off the harness that is sitting unused in the 2 GTS but can be used to plug into a center tail light if so desired. I can't find a picture of the harness, only a crummy drawing. I emailed a couple parts stores to pick their brains. Keep y'all posted.

Does it function as a 3rd brake light? Never paid attention. Another option would be to have it only function as a taillight, and leave the CHMSL up in the engine grill.
