Default Screen shut off

Tonight I drove the car for the 1st time in a couple months and everything was great at first, but after parking for about 5 minutes when I turned the car back on a few seconds after moving forward the center screen just went black and I couldn't get it on the whole ride home.

When I got home I turned the car off and on and the screen came back on. Has anyone else had that problem? What can I do to prevent this from happening again? My car is a 14 with around 6,000 miles.

I remember a Nick Murray video where the screen would reset when he went over bumps, but I don't think I went over much of a bump in the parking lot when the screen went off.

Mine has reset a couple of times when playing tracks on the jukebox. Definitely annoying.

I suspect your battery was weakened from the prolong period on no use. Do you have the car on a battery maintainer? If the battery voltage drops much from 12 volts all sorts of odd behaviors can occur.

I didn't put it on any kind of battery maintainer. I wasn't planning on being gone that long. I drove it again today and no problems. Should it be fine now that the car is running regularly again?

I don't think it's your battery. I think it's a faulty PCM screen.

PCM on my '14 was shutting down too. Software update to 4.76 fixed it.

Should I bring it to the dealer while it's still under warranty?

Definitely. I got a brand new PCM installed by the dealer within 2-3 days for defective navigation issue.

If the car isn't under warranty, will the dealership cover the cost for replacing the PCM if that is the issue causing the map problems?

Maybe but probably not in full - how car out of warranty is it? Past problems with the PCM? How is your relationship with the dealer - do you take it there for service, etc.? All of those things matter.

The PCM has not had any issues in the past, as far as I know. It's a 2014 with 44,400 miles, so warranty expired 1 yr ago. I have had my car serviced at this dealership before, but I am not sure if they will make an exception regarding replacing the PCM. Thanks for your input!

So I had a 2017 that did this. When powering off the PCM the screen would only stay black/off for a few seconds and repeatedly flash on and off. Even when it would stay off for a while, it would come back on when the car reached a stopped position, and then go back to black when the car pulled away?? Dealer said they made an update, but it never was fixed. Fast forward to the 2019 Carrera T...it does the exact same thing. Some glitches with the 991.2 PCM I guess. Now I just leave it on all the time. Very surprising to have this behavior in two different cars. Had 3 991.1's and none of them did it. Didn't see that yours is a 2014 until I posted this. I've only noticed it on the .2 cars.
