Due for 1 Year Service (10,000) with 6000 and I don't need an oil change.
This is my first Porsche and I decided to do my own oil changes every 5000 miles because I am keeping my beautiful 991 GTS forever. I am planning to let the dealer do the 10,000 miles service but now after a year I am getting close to the computer reminder for service. I only have 6000 miles and I don't expect to put another 4000 until the middle of next year. Here is the question, how do I get the dealer to reset the computer when I am not doing the service. I was told by my local dealer that they won't do computer reset if they don't do the service, even paying. I am not interested in buying a Durametric or any other chinese code reader.
I find this whole computer service reminder system very intrusive and in my case leaving me without options thru my local dealer.

The dealer isn't interested in doing the reset for "free".... Ask them how much to do the reset. Maybe then they'll do it.
Another approach that might work- I've had my dealer reset several times even though I do my own service but I always ask them to do so when they are working on some warranty item or at least something they get paid for... I never go in and ask for a free reset. Maybe my own experience I guess.

I usually buy my filters and other minor parts at the dealer - with pca discount is about the same as suncoast. They reset it for free, I offer to pay them but they're like nah piece of cake.

If you're going to keep your car for a while ..... dig into the couch and find some $$ and buy the Chinese computer tool.

U might want to check out the latest Durametric cable, to see if it will work with ur GTS...

Some options:
1. There will be a guy on Rennlist who lives in your area and has a Durametric cable. Connect with him and make a new friend. Also join your local PCA, they will help.
2. Find an Indy who works on Porsches and pay him $20 bucks to do it.
3. Tell your dealership that you will go somewhere else (a competitor) to get the maintenance done. Looks like you are from Miami, there must be more than one dealership in the area.
4. Live with it and every time the reminder comes up (i.e. every startup), email/write PCNA and tell them not to design a car with this function in the future. They will eventually get the message.

Great suggestions. I understand that Durametric are VIN specifics and you can only use it with a maximum of 3 different VINs.
I like #4 the best!
I am a PCA member already. I will look into this too.

Trucheli, since you seem like a Porsche GTS lifer, I think you should just buy the Durametric cable for about $300 and be done with it. You'll break even in a few years, and not have an annoying light on your dash. Not that it's about the money. I suspect you just want things done right. Down the road, going forward, I suspect you'll find additional value and uses for the cable.

Lexvan, I didn't want to go that route because I have decided to let the dealer do the recommended maintenance and I didn't see a need to invest in the cable. But now that I am in this predicament by doing my own oil change at 5000 miles and getting the cold shoulder from my local dealer I might have to invest in the cable.
I also wonder that by not doing the service at the 1 year mark as recommended, this will have a negative effect in the history of my car.

Not at all. Save your oil filter and crush ring receipt. Save your Mobil 5W50 receipt. Log the date and mileage of your oil change on your receipt or whatever method you use (can even log on the MyCarFax smart phone app). Maybe throw in a picture, and save on your computer as a digital file/receipt. There really isn't much of anything done in the first year 10,000 mile service. Some visual checks, and an oil change. If you do it at month 10 or month 14.....it really won't matter much. 18-24 months would be a bigger issue. You are fine.

I purchased this Launch X-431 R Diagnostic Tool Reset Automotive Oil Lamp Service Light. For $40 it has already paid for itself. Can reset all routine service codes. It is no longer available on Ebay, but is available via a Google search. Best $40 you will ever spend.
