For me, it's an open air, mid-engine, NA, 6MT with PSE/SC, red 981 to really enjoy the weekend drive - thrashing it around in anger through the hills of South East PA. (PSE is necessary to drown out the screams of my spouse)

Can't get rear axle steering on the base

I think that was his point. He used the word "will". I agree. I want SPASM on the base but can't get it.

Ah, I see. Missed his intent there.

Sounds like a perfect pair, and yes, knowing what one's own 'thing' is is important - can be expensive if one gets it wrong!

New to Porsche world but PASM is available on all 991.2 models. What is SPASM?

Sport PASM. It is 10mm lower than PASM with stiffer sway bars and more aggressive valving in the shocks.

I'll admit that I ordered a C2S over a C2 because "more power", even if it wasn't overwhelmingly logical. My last fun car was a 2003 BMW Z4 2.5i and I regretted not getting the 3.0, and even more envious when the Z4M came out several years later.

Although either of these variations are in another league of power compared to my Z4, I didn't want to face that same regret in five years and I plan to keep this one almost as long as I did the Z4 (13 years).

To that point, here's my favorite quote about my car in an article that explains why it isn't the best choice in the lineup:

The new Carrera S, with the larger turbos, is now too close to the Turbo in terms of driving experience. The clarity of response we talked about earlier is no longer there. It hasn't "shrunk" like the base car, and it's just "too much" 911. It feels more like a Turbo-lite than a Carrera-plus.
So I guess I'll need to rebadge my car to "911 Turbo Lite"

I can't recall ever wishing for less power in any of the 40-50 vehicles I've owned.

For me at least is not that I don't wish for more power but it's just that I'm satisfy with the power and performance level of the base .2 Carrera. After all, now it's a 3 second car.

That may be true, but I suspect that there were times that you chose a less powerful car than a more powerful car due to other factors. (Price, looks, brand, prestige, handling, etc). I'd certainly rather have the 50 extra HP of the S, but not at the additional expense. I'd rather save the money or spend it elsewhere. Fortunate to have these choices.

I might be alone in this, but I felt like the base was not quite fast enough after a test drive.

I had gotten used to a motorcycle that makes 165hp at the rear wheel and weighs 435 lbs with a full tank of gas. Big power to weight ratio for a street legal vehicle, so great acceleration. Also I had done a test drive in a 991.1 base C4. Loved the handling but disappointed with the power. Glad I went with the 991.2 S model.

Wow, after reading this piece on this guy's argument for base motor being preferable to S I'm having one hell of a time deciding between a base and 4S. I don't have the time or patience to find all these variants to test drive so I'd love more input between the two. I'm like some of you who just want the most power and highest tech but don value that over driving feel. I also have a question which I'm sure has been answered a hundred times on this forum but couldn't find it easily. I don't value ability to drive in snow or rain because I have a truck for inclement weather. Does the 4 handle better than rear-wheel drive for twisty, dry back country road?

I purchased the 991.2 Base Carrera and I'm really happy with it. I guess with the past model it was worth it to upgrade to the S model but in this one, I don't know if the extra few HP is worth the extra cost.

At least in my country, the difference between the two models is quite a bit. In the future if I want some more HP, I can always tune the ECU: Right now, I'm very happy how the car performs. I'm not planning to track it so HP is enough for me (at least for now..).

My local dealer is bringing the Base fully loaded with options so the only real difference with the S they bring is the HP, the rear axle steering and Sport Chrono (which I don't really use). The rest is the same.
