Sport exhaust backfiring and farting
#46
Didn't you test drive it before you ordered it?
It's meant to sound like a race car with the unspent fuel igniting on the way out the exhaust.
It is a bit obnoxious, but the standard exhaust sounds so tinny, cheap and depressing on start up that I had to tick the PSE box on my order.

I test drove one without the PSE and enjoyed the note out of the exhaust. When I heard on youtube that crackle... I put the options on that I wanted from the sports package (build listed above) and left that element off.

Somebody posted a YouTube video a while back in one of these threads with the exhaust notes on the road from behind on a bunch of cars, including the .1 and the .2, both with PSE. That video, IMO, best captured the sound of each and the difference between the two.

I had the sales rep start the car while I stood outside with both the PSE and regular exhaust. I think this shows a pretty good example of what it sounds like from the outside.

I'm in no rush to own a 3.0 turbo engine.

The "crackles and pops" is the only reason I spent the extra $3k for the PSE. If I get tired of it, I can always turn it off or get in my 997.1 C2S with a gundo hack. But I do love the attention it gets.

Speaking of farts, I must be an old one because I purchased my 911 for me (and for the occasional appreciative passenger -- mainly grandsons, 7 and 5) and my enjoyment of its styling and performance and not for attention.
My 2 additional cents; I herewith descend from the soapbox.

Similarly, almost every single manufacturer is now adding artificial overrun to produce backfire and burbles. It's just something that most mainstream drivers enjoy and think of as being "cool" (look at the F-Type, The 370Z, The M4/GTS, etc.).

Loud fart noises at the touch of a button? I don't hear it - but would probably pay for that feature if available. I like the crackles and pops that accompany the flat six "ZIIING" when downshifting into high rpm with PSE on. But I leave it off for just farting around town.

My car does not have PSE, but it does have binoculars.
