I just purchased the Launch Creader 7S off Amazon which appears to be the same unit pictured above. On my 981 it will reset the oil service light but will not reset the maintenance interval notifications. It appears that it will reset the brake service light as well.

I'll be returning this one since I want to be able to reset oil and maintenance interval indicators.

I'm unable to update the software on it as the site listed in the included manual will not actually allow me to register the product. I can download the updating software but I can't actually update the device without a password (which I can't get because I can't register the device on-line).

I bought a Creader 7S also and ran into the same problem trying to update/register. Launch USA said that the 7S is an overseas model that Launch USA does not support. I have an email in to the seller to see if there is anything that can be done to salvage this buy.

I couldn't get the Creader 7S to register or update. The EBay ad did not mention it was an overseas model not supported in the US. I eventually ended up returning it, but seller, "kingbolenltd", shorted me the $32 return shipping cost.

Can anyone please tell me what the difference is between the x431R, CResetter and CResetter II? Will the software update work for all systems?

So I just received mine but I'm having some problems updating the device. I downloaded the Launch Update Tool and ran it on my PC, it showed two options: Device Upgrade and Client Tool Upgrade. I tried Device Upgrade but it required a Product Serial number. When I entered the S/N on the back of the device it says the S/N is not a DIY series product S/N. When I tried Client Tool Upgrade it just failed.

After this I went ahead and plug it into the car anyways but it does not show Porsche as one of the auto manufacturer. Also when I read the ebay description again, they did not list Porsche as one of the makes either.

Interestingly it's already in English. Under Tool information I saw that the Software Version is 02.01.000 and the Hardware version is 01.00.003, and then it lists the serial number.

Did I download the right updater? I used the link you suggested. But I did notice the software is for a Cresetter II, X431R, and CR VII. But the tool I have says it's a Cresetter Launch only (like the one you linked).

Any suggestions is appreciated.

Well I received the Cressetter and performed the update and Porsche still didn't appear on the menu.

The ebay ad had the Cresetter II pictured but was sent one that only said Cressetter.

Is this the issue or is there another way to update these devices to gain the Porsche function.

Sorry about that... Looks like i might have helped you waste $11 or $15. I coulda sworn the ad showed the Cresetter II when I posted it. At any rate, deleted my original post. I think you might only be able to read OBD codes with that version, not be able to reset anything.

They keep changing their model numbers and having different devices with very similar sounding names, glad it wasn't more.

Just to be thorough, make sure you scroll down PAST where Porsche ought to be... First time I upgraded I didn't think Porsche was there, but it was. Just out of alphabetical order. It's probably the device, but just to double check.

Well I can stop wasting my time trying to update this thing. Anyways yes I bought the item you link which is the Cresetter Launch, this version does not connect to a Porsche. For that you'll need a Cresetter II.

As for CSK 911, I think you're entitled to a refund since the seller posted the wrong picture. I read the descriptions and it seems to describe a Cresetter Launch, but when I looked at the pictures they are indeed a Cresetter II. Interestingly the II has 13 pages of automakers, whereas the Launch only has 3 pages. So if you have 13 pages then keep scrolling.
