After spending some time driving the Macan S, I've really begun to like the smaller airbag. Jumping into the 991, it just seemed a bit off to me in a small way. The airbag is much bigger in the .1

Anyway, why not do a mod?? After all, we do so much with our cars.

Had the Sport steering wheel already with the stalk MF which I put in last year. Before that I had the standard MF steering wheel.

Ordered the GT Sport .2 steering wheel with ONLY paddle shifters and new airbag. The steering wheel was a custom order from Porsche and took like 5 weeks.

Since I have the Sport/Sport Plus buttons on the console, wasn't looking to have the round unattractive bezel on the steering wheel.

Anyway, paddle shifters work perfectly and so far loving the steering wheel. I like that the outer part is black and the inners silver. On the standard .2 wheel and Macan one, it has a silver exterior. This GT Sport wheel design is what's coming on the 911R. On that model it's tweaked a bit design wise.

Quality wise?? I'd have to hand it to the .1 Sport Wheel. The .2 GT Sport one could be a bit higher quality. That being the black frame of it. It's pretty lightweight plastic. I love the smaller airbag though. Anyway, each has its merits. The .2 DOES not have the Sport and Sport plus lights on the wheel like the .1 obviously. In a perfect world, I'd take the .1 Sport Wheel with a .2 smaller airbag!

Porsche dealer did the install. Quick like 1hr of labor for that and changing the cabin filter. I'll have to ask if they did any programming.

I will be doing measurements comparing the .1 Sport Wheel and .2 GT Sport Wheel at a later time.

I love men who drive 991's ... Only in Silver, Black, or White ... Interior? Only black.

Very nice!

Nice mod but I think I prefer the standard Sport Wheel.

Since you mentioned driving the Macan, is the top plastic on your .2 wheel the same plastic as the Macan S? I like that your wheel has a black matte top finish whereas the Macan has the shiny silver plastic.

We also have a Macan S in addition to the 911 and I like the feel/fit/finish and plastic quality on the .1 wheels more than the .2

The top plastic is the same quality as the Macan wheel, but is a matte black. I also prefer the matte black to the shiny silver of the Macan.

The quality/fit/finish of the .1 wheels do edge out the .2 wheels. I agree.

The GT Sport wheel is also a bit smaller in diameter to the standard 991.2 wheel. I'd have to check the mm sizes.

Do you lose the "sport" and "Sport Plus" lights in the .1 sport steering wheel?

Yes. There are no lights on the .2 wheel

knowing what you know now, would you do it again considering cost, labor, etc. seems you are a little disappointed (no lights, finish better on .1, diameter maybe smaller on the .2, etc). if does look nice though - I like the all matte black

STG - are by any chance near Chicago? I assume you had the work done. I'm looking for a reliable shop to do some work (steering wheel swap and make some suggestions to tweak my GTS). Thanks.

Just got it done yesterday, but I'm happy with it and would do it again at this point. I always think through these choices extensively beforehand and rarely have a regret.

I'm just being honest and outlining the +/-'s. The quality overall is great. but I'm probably being a bit more detailed than the average person. How many people would tap on the black trim and think it should sound a bit different? :)

The steering wheel feel, size, and looks are very positive. The airbag size is perfect and balances everything else nicely. I like the matte black as mentioned, and the silver aluminum inserts with the bolts seem very high quality. The leather wheel and craftsmanship of that is the high quality we expect.

The smaller airbag size is the trend we're seeing with all car manufacturers at this time.
