Did you have to cut the spring perch off the front shocks? or can it just be tapped off?

I noticed in the elephant racing instructions they were cut off. I'd prefer not to have to buy new front shocks just to return the car to stock.

Bumping this just once to see if anyone might have an answer and missed this thread. If I can't get a definitive answer I think i'm just going with the bilstein damptronics which might be better anyways.
