Default Taking her in for 1st service/oil change

Finally hit the 1 year mark on my 991 gts so she's due for an oil change so I was just wondering if there is anything else I should ask the Service Manager to take care of. I've heard for example they should update the PCM. So is there anything else I should have on the books?
Thanks

Great question. Was wondering the exact same thing. My car is now 13 months old w/ 2,700 miles. Am taking it in for oil change next month.

Before you get bent over at the dealer, keep in mind this service costs $50 and takes 30 minutes to do yourself.

I may try to DIY in the future but on this first all-important oil change I don't want to screw anything up. So anyone with any advice on the matter?

$50??? Can barely get the oil for that. Now add the filter kit, and you're at around $80!

Mobil 1 0W-40 or Castrol 0W-40, both Porsche A40 approved are $23 for 5 quarts at Wal-Mart. $39.38 for 8 quarts, including tax.

K&N PS-7032 filter $10.99 online, free shipping, no tax.

Total $50.37.

I think Software Version 4.76 is the latest...add online services if you'd like as well...map update?

I take the 991 to the dealer while it is under warranty. Did the same with the Cayman when new. I think it is cheap insurance to have a good relationship with the dealer while under warranty.

Once they are out of warranty then I do it myself or have an independent handle the tougher jobs on the Cayman and '88 911.

My boy and I swapped out the air filter and plugs today. His little hands made it a snap to get to the rear, lower air filter release. Rain prevented us from replacing the rotor and distributor---maybe tomorrow!

I'm not saying it's problematic, but K&N is not OEM.

You guys do what you like. If you think you are building a relationship with your service department by wasting money on wildly overpriced routine service, have at it. Dealers here don't care, I still get loaner and they act like I'm a long lost friend when I come in with a warranty item. They never see me otherwise.

Not getting into a pointless oil filter debate, but if you really think it matters, you can get a Mahle or Mann filter, both OEM for $16 on Amazon.

Good job repurposing the adjustable ice scraper

Hope you paid him well, I'm sure the Germans are tougher on their child labor laws than the Chinese are

He was so happy to have made a difference...taught him how to confirm the spark plug gap as well as talked about how the motor works. Priceless experience for both of us.

The ice scraper came in handy...new hood and frunk shocks on order! I didn't have an old hockey stick around...

Way cool, get'm hooked early.

Funny neither of my boys can drive a stick (which is actually a blessing since my Porsches have alway been stick) but my daughter refuses to drive an automatic - go figure.

I'm not quite sure what you are saying, but if you are asking if it is required to have routine service done at the dealer in order to have them honor the warranty, the answer is no, never.

How do you reset the service indicator?
