Last week we drove up Highway 1 from Sausalito to Leggett. Then we headed up to Humboldt Redwoods State Park, and took the Avenue of the Giants on the way back.

I took this picture of Stratosphere Giant, one of the tallest trees on earth (around 371' tall).

iPhone 6S shot near the summit of The Million Dollar Highway between Ouray and Silverton, Colorado. We were stopped briefly for construction on one of the most scenic drives in the west. This shot was from a 2400 mile road trip five of us took (in four 911s) from Southern California to AZ/UT/CO/NM/AZ/NV and back. Priceless.

Amazing scenery plus enormous fun.

Only disappointment was that the weather was misty and windy so not suitable for top down motoring. It was top up all the way sadly.

I can always tell by looking out my sideview mirror and lifting off the seat a little. I catch the very tip of the wing when it's up.

Love the driving shot of your 911. Great color!

Thx, this was in Wurzburg. I did but w/ only about 15-30cm (6-12") to spare either side of the mirrors. I was sweating as car < 1 week old!

Ah, no, that's just the shadow in the lane. I read somewhere else on the forum that black tips are coming (suncoast) so I def will be looking to complete the look

indeed. I do like C4 look but would have added some more beads of sweat; I was on my own so no-one to guide me, so once I 'committed' I just had to keep it as straight as possible. And I couldn't hop out to check my progress or to take a photo! :D I basically used the clearance either side of the mirrors as I gingerly moved fwd.

I decided to travel through the Tampa area (rainy day) and give out shoes to those who needed it most. Met a couple of Army Veterans one of which gave me thumbs up to my car when I first drove by so I did a quick U-turn and hooked him up (his name is Bill who's next to my car) and the other was just telling the police officer he was needing shoes (he was barefoot) and I pulled up in the parking lot at the right moment and asked him if he needed shoes. He ended up getting 2 pair, socks, an umbrella, and $40 for food. We are all blessed to be in the position of helping others. Cheers!

Yes. I assume it is. Purchased New off the dealer lot. I made no modifications. It has PASM Sport Suspension (-20mm). I understand that's a lower ride than the base and the PASM. Does it appear unusually lower?

Nice. I notice you are able to mount the bike with its front wheel on the roof. I'd like to carry my Trek Madone 6 series Carbon bike like this on the roof of my 991.2 C2S. Can you please share some details on the roof carrier and how much it cost you.

Got both thru my dealer. The black rubber trim in front and behind the sun roof can be lifted and the attachments found underneath. The base support system ($580) comes with a tool that makes it easy to lift up the attachments as well as screw in the base support.

The race bike carrier ($285) comes with another attachment for the front wheel but since I was carrying 2 bikes, I just put the front wheel in the frunk which fits quite well.

First is from a soggy Saturday at Calabogie... got the entire track to myself for most of the day in wet/heavy rain conditions. Wow that was fun + interesting. Thankfully it was dry on Sunday and my mods paid off, beat my best lap time from last year by over 9 seconds! :D

The rest are pics on the drive back to Toronto showing the white 997 Turbo S cab I followed/chased back for closed to 90 minutes (strictly at the speed limit of course) as well as the sky + clouds at sunset.

To say it has been a labour of love is an understatement... it has taken 18 months and no shortage of mods + money but as it stands now it is damn near perfect. Not to say that there isn't additional mods planned down the road assuming the wife doesn't murder me when another package arrives. :D

Thanks Ryan. I mentioned it in another thread but the KW's settled a bit after install (not unexpected), I found after a week or so it was sitting a bit too low. Luckily I was going to have the car back at the shop again anyways so they raised the ride height + evened it out across the four corners, touched up the alignment to make it a bit more aggressive, and then did a corner balance taking into account my (ample) body weight. Right now due to the corner balance the right height isn't exactly the same at each corner but that is to be expected... it is close though and you can't really tell with the naked eye.

Great news is the car handles like a dream at the track... flat through corners, super well balanced, no hint of understeer, and grip for days. I'm sure it is some unholy combination of the tires, springs/ride height, alignment, and corner balance so likely tough to point the finger at any one thing. Gladly though each element is working together very, very well... it was unbelievably fun to drive on the track and easily 2x more confidence inspiring than before.

Thanks Bob. TPC sways should be installed in the next week or so... next track day isn't until mid-September so I have some time. Very interested to see what they add to the mix though. :D

Currently on an 10 day road trip around the Basque and Rioja regions of Spain in the C4 GTS cab. Staying for a few days at the Marques de Riscal Hotel designed by Frank Gehry. A remarkable hotel on the edge of the village of Elciego in Rioja.

pfan--The size differential is a function of a wide angle lens distortion (note how the 991 is stretched and distorted more at the rear than the front). The 997 on the right also looks much bigger than the one in the middle. The 991 is bigger, but not nearly that much bigger.

The Porsche Aerokit Cup is a great looking option and functional, too.

According to Porsche:

Aerokit Cup

This package comprises the SportDesign package (SportDesign front fascia and rear spoiler) as well as a modified front spoiler lip and a fixed-wing profile on the rear spoiler.

Tested and refined in the Porsche wind tunnel, the components increase downforce on both axles and improve handling. They also emphasize the 911 sports car’s performance heritage.

Thanks for the shout out. I was out washing it yesterday and a guy in a 7 Series Beemer goes by, turns around, turns into my road (I live on a corner) stops in front of the house and said my wheels caught his eye and he had to turn around and take a second look.

I agree, the wheels are a great combo with the Targa top.

Well what have we here? A scene out of "freshly stolen GTS" movie, with the car about to be driven into one of the chop garage(s)?
Useless items such as the soft top can be thrown into the thrash alley separating the 2 garage buildings.
Don't forget to insert the requisite spotter therein, as well.

OK this was about 3 weeks back, and it was a rented Boxster GTS. A little Hotel in France on the Tarn River, called the Chateau de la Caze. The road along the Tarn was a spectacular drive, a bit of traffic slowed us down ( just a wee-bit) on the drive in, but the next morning we left early (that is when the picture was taken) and we did not see another car for over 30 minutes.

Palm trees and a Targa. What a great combo. Thanks for posting the photos!

The road along the Tarn was a spectacular drive, a bit of traffic slowed us down ( just a wee-bit) on the drive in, but the next morning we left early (that is when the picture was taken) and we did not see another car for over 30 minutes.

This is awesome! Sounds like an excellent trip!!!

My wife and I had "date day", and took a drive on the Kancamagus Highway (awesome road in NH) back in October.

A bunch of middle-school-age kids were getting on a bus behind me as the photos were taken; the boys were arguing whether it was a Ferrari or a Porsche :D

Great pic. It's in the 60s this morning in south Florida. Great weather for a drive. Actually, my fiancé and I are taking a drive shorty. We're looking at venues for our wedding. Tons of fun. I think the only thing that gets me through the boring parts is the drive. We're taking my 991.

The Elk on the Trail Monument further on Rt 2. The statue stands in memory of those who lost their lives in World War I.

I meant to get a shot or 2 along the Deerfield River but it started to get dark.
When Rt 2 is freshly or decently paved, the sections from Rt 22 to Rt 7 and from North Adams to Greenfield, are incredible drives and make up for missing a track day.

Nice. Don't see the point of winterizing unless it somehow comes down to garage space. We have plenty of dry days when the roads are salt-free, tip-top condition. As temp is a major factor--even if you don't change to winter tires--just take it slow on the days you take her out for some exercise.

Skyline Drive is beautiful, lots of twists and turns, but the speed limit is 35. Right now, there isn't too much traffic and I didn't see any patrols. It's more for touring. However, the ride along 552 from Culpepper to Luray is awesome with its hairpin turns.

We had fun on 522, and then turned on to Skyline Drive at the top of the mountain and drove down to Front Royal. We slide back the sunroof and enjoyed the autumn smells and crisp air.

Yes but when you talk to the owner who happens to be a hot blonde chick, the top (the one of the car, that is), is the least of your concerns! ;)

She used to drive a 911 so hats off to a pretty car freak! :)

Two more shots of getting the car detailed before I took her out to get her dirty again. In my world that is the circle of life...

They also sent me a link last night for an early look at the DC auto show in January. We get in before the gates open for a preview, and Porsche will be there.

It's PCA Potomac. I believe it is the original club in the US.

Sure notice how the Pirelli's don't like sub 9 degrees Celsius and need much longer to warm up.

That looks like a fun twisty road. Your white with the black rims looks great. I hate getting my car dirty, but there is something cool about seeing the water beads roll off your car.

Absolutely stunning!

Here are some recent pictures from a Saturday afternoon drive up Rt 32 and down Rt 29 around Southeastern PA and Central NJ, respectively, along the Delaware River. The drive up Rt 32 is full of twisty backroads with quaint, rustic boutique stores and lodges/inns and little elevation changes. The exact route is on an OS app called GTS Routes.

I had a farmhouse in Hardwick Township in Northwest NJ and used to take that road all the time to Philly. It's a beautiful drive for sure, and how nice to take it in your 911!!!

Yep, NJ has some great roads, too. Go up above Blairstown, through Hardwick, over towards Newton, and so on - lots of fun roads.

Thanks.

Yes I agree twisty and nice elevation changes which made for a great ride.

I ended up having to use the cruise control when there was LEO following me for a good ten minutes on 29 south!

I am glad you liked the route! There used to be a classic car dealer in New Hope and occasionally dropped in there. Once, I nearly bought a Lotus Elan there, but the wife was afraid of me driving a tiny fiberglas car.

Still have yet to finish it. Went from Washington Crossing to Easton, I am sure it gets better farther North on 611. Will definitely go again.

I am shocked how many great roads are here in NJ, especially having grown up here.

Your wife is wise, I am sure you didn't miss much on that Lotus.

Yep, I heart NJ. Most people think of it as a suburb of New York, but it really is a beautiful state from the mountains in the North to the Pine Barrens and beaches.

Meet up sounds great, perhaps in better weather.

Sounds good. We can always wait for the spring time...probably make for a more enjoyable meet up and ride. Perhaps we can meet at a local cars and croissants meet up, then go for a cruise from that as a starting point.

Sounds perfect and we can get some great drive pictures for this thread too. There are several C&C events in NNJ. One of the more popular ones is run by Abi and Kirk. Perhaps there is another thread here about C&C events/dates?

Did a really nice drive on the 3rd. Drove the 150 to Ojai which is a great road, then the 33 past Pine Mountain to the 166 to New Cuyama. The first 30 miles or so of the 166 is pretty basic, but then it gets in to some lovely winding mountain highway (vid). We stopped in Los Olivos for dinner.

Hey GTSwest, nice photos. Looks like a beautiful day on the Saanich Peninsula! We have friends and relatives who have boats out that way. Always try and fly out in the summer/fall to spend some water time with them. We out there in mid/late August last year, went from Desolation Sound up north, down to Roche Harbor in the south. No Pcar time on that trip, all aircraft and boats. But to tell you the truth I am always very happy to be in anyone of the three.

Cheers,

Hey Sctanton, Thanks for clearing-up my "where is that location" question. Seems like a good vacation destination. By-the-way, nice line up in your footer. How fast is that plane? :burnout:

sctanton52 01-06-2017 10:15 PM

The Mirage has a nominal TAS (True Air Speed) of about 220 Knots at 24000 feet, That is about 407 KPH. We generally fly it a bit lower, at 16000 to 20000 feet so our speeds are in the 200 TAS knot range, so some 370 KPH. IIRC the flight time, that day, from YYJ (Victoria) to YBW (Springbank, Calgary) was just over two hours.

Flying at 400 KPH , driving at 140+, or sailing at 15+ is all great fun.

@P991GTS- great car & pictures. I have a quick and easy project for you. :)

Your center 3rd radiator needs a quick touch up. Our PowerKit cars take a beating on this rad. It's super easy. I did mine last winter during hibernation. Use a medium stuff brush to clean the fins and vacuum. Then, just use the blue painter's tape and mask off all the black plastic trim (needs to be clean, no 303, for example, or else the tape won't stick), and then tape a few sheets of paper on the bumper cover. Hit it with a few light, sweeping, coats of satin black spray paint. Nothing fancy. Will take <45 minutes from start to finish. The painter's tape takes the longest.

There's always something else that takes priority.

If he does all that, he may as well paint the lip while at it as well. :D

Got up in to the 60s last week...last bit of warm weather this winter, I think! (Although we really haven't seen much snow yet.)

Nice one Hurricane, I thought that was a GT3 at first glance. Looking good. Agree re the mild winter, and still looks good for the next week:burnout:

Quick edit: You need Sport Design mirrors, sorry, just saying (I'll keep a look out on "What did you buy for your 991 today")

Nice! I was at that exact spot two weeks ago! I posted a vid of my journey up Sunrise Hwy. Such a great drive.

I actually saw that video on Youtube while trying to get a feel for the AWE! I said to myself "Hey, I know that road!"

I wish I had some recent drive pictures! It's been 20 degrees here with snow for a couple of weeks.

Nice! I hope to organize some drives this spring/summer. That road will for sure be one of the routes.

Same here!! Need to figure out how to download photos when we get thawed out. Any tips?

If you mean uploading photos to Rennlist, it's just the matter of selecting the paper clip icon, then upload, which should point to your hard drive. Pick your photos, then upload! I only use iPhone and MacBook (i.e. the stuff that just works). Perhaps you have some hardware/software bugs to contend with, courtesy of Bill :banghead:

Backed up like that to get a shot of the front angle without the car ahead of me.

Wouldn't leave it parked like that for fear of rubbing.

This is not a drive pic but did not know where else to put it. While awaiting my flight from
Bangkok to Tokyo, saw this being put in the belly of the plane. Someone in Tokyo is not waiting for boat delivery of what looks like a 991.2 Targa

Awesome Pic. Were you on that flight?

kayjh 01-24-2017 03:55 PM

Have to wonder what the freight charge was. Maybe the guy could save a bit by siting in the car during flight?
