I'd say that "repair shop" just bought you a new top.

Looks like crop circles. Could be aliens.

Sorry that happened to you.

I think a machine would have made more / more consistent marks. Also completely inconsistent with the directional nature of a car wash. I was a professional detailer in my early years, and this looks like the watchband/buckle of an aggressive enough washer then drier.

Update

I took my car back to the repair shop and met with the supervisor. They assured me that they don't use an automatic car wash. But they also admitted that something most definitely happened to it, presumably during the hand washing. Possibly something was on the towel or cloth or whatever they used on the top. I emphasized that I never touch it at all with any material ever- only hose it off when I wash it, and then let it air dry.
I have it scheduled to go back to them next week where their upholstery expert will attempt to remove the marks. I am cautiously optimistic that if they can't repair it, they will ultimately replace it.
Hopefully this story will have a happy ending.

I would think they have insurance for this.

It looks like someone tried to vacuum the top and that's what the marks are from!!

So, how much is a 991 cabriolet top replacement???? $3,000? Or more like $8,000? I bet the latter.

And then labor. At least another $1,000. Surprised the top is not more.

I suspect at least $1,000 for labor. That $1K maybe buys 6 hours of work.

Is your price just the fabric and window? Or all the internals and magnesium panels too??

Looks like it is the complete top outside and inside fabric. The only other parts shown are the front and rear seals and attachment hardware and the side window seals.
