mix here in the city.....early morning/short commute to work and back home, i let the automatic tranny do its thing. if i feel like turning it up a notch or weekend driving, definitely in manual/paddle mode.

I came from an all manual past as well. Maybe 20 cars? Something like that. My first 911 was a 2012 manual base cab. Great car. I was still curious about the PDK so I test drove one. I was super impressed. Way more than I thought I would be. Anyway I bought a 2013 S cab with PDK soon after. I really like it.
As for the question, I probably drop it in manual mode about 50% of the time. Never use the "stick" just the paddles. It's a lot of fun, and awesome when your just stuck in traffic and auto mode is an option.

I always put mine in manual mode. I even forget that it's an automatic at times, and while trying to multitask (load a song, grab something for my kid) I will one handed hold the steering wheel and press the paddle shifter completely forgetting I should just switch to automatic.

Here in LA, I use auto when the car is cold, when I'm in stop and go traffic, or when I'm doing something mundane like a quick run to the grocery store. Otherwise, I'm manual.
The ratio is probably 30% auto / 70% manual.
My GTS is my DD but I make a point of finding a lot of open road every day, no matter what.

I'm 98% of the time in auto mode on my commute. However since the car in auto mode and in sport still does not downshift like I would like coming off the interstate I tend to down shift manually as 6th gear going thirty is not so good. I feel like the car is trying to save gas a little too much.

I think I had my 2013 in auto mode twice in 2 years ... both in crawling traffic jams. then again, I came from 25 years of daily driving 911s with manual transmissions. I think my Ferrari has an Auto mode but I've never used it ; )
On the 991, twist the key, knock the shifter into manual, hit the sport button, start driving. Great transmission. Also nice that you can coast up to a red light or stop sign and it will do the downshifting for you.

This is my sequence:
Turn on the car and wait until valves closes.
Auto mode with sport off for faster warm up
Once the car reaches 200 degrees on the oil temperature go to manual and Sport Mode.
I like being in the right gear all the time and that's only possible in manual mode.

Thanks , that's great input. I actually asked something about that in the other thread. so paddle shifts only put in temporary manual mode which is what I was experiencing.
But why on earth would they do that? Does anyone actually use the stick to sift in a PDK? the whole point is fast shifting and it's obviously faster when your hands are on the wheel.
I don't know, one more reason to go for a manual

I test drove a couple with PDK and also drove a friends car that has it and just didn't enjoy shifting with paddles or the stick. Seemed kind of pointless to me. I tried to keep an open mind, but I got a lot more enjoyment out of the manual. Obviously some of the people that own it seem to shift with the paddles/stick, but it didn't do it for me.
