I think $150-$160 for my local P dealer. Your BMW dealer is smoking crack!

Bigger markets are more $$ obviously. Techs get paid more too. You have to pay to play. Running a dealership isn't cheap and service is a huge revenue source. Can't make it on car sales alone.

I don't mind paying for a tech I trust and have confidence in. I've followed my tech as he has changed P dealers.

This "stealership" thing is overplayed. You have choices if not happy. You can shop a Porsche car anywhere in the US. You also have the choice of buying a Honda too.

See what your local plumbing and electrical co charges. Pushing $100/hr many times.

Just for a simple oil change Braman Motorcars in West Palm Beach charges $375 when The Collection in Miami charges $200. Why such disparity?

So @ $130, is that still a "stealership"?

$130/hr is a steal (as in bargain)! Can't get better than that.

The good techs deserve to be paid well. The one I always request is well worth anything. Very accommodating to me and all my questions and concerns. I'd rather talk to the guy that's doing to work. Not a always the norm I know, but as it turns out we have some mutual acquaintances and he really likes to talk about the technical details which is nice. I'm very picky and like to cover all the bases.

I suppose the hourly rate would have to cover the tech, the service advisor, the scheduler, the cute receptionist, general overhead and, of course, a fair profit... Oh and don't forget the bad coffee... So all in all, on the surface it is a high price to the consumer, but it is not straight forward to determine what a fair price ought to be... As others have said, it depends on the market. As much as most people dislike car dealers, it is a very tough business... IMO

The 1st and last time I paid for service it was $120/hr in Nashville, TN

Oil Change was $317

2 years ago when I bought my car I thought a service package was included so I didn't think twice when I needed an oil change. After this oil change and a little embarrassing time with the finance guy reviewing the paperwork..... I figured out how easy the car is to maintain so I'm glad the service package didn't make it into the numbers.

Don't forget the dealership building, real estate taxes, and keeping up with Porsche's building and showroom requirements and updates. Plus all other business expenses.

Look at the different cost of living and prices of houses throughout the US. Same with commercial real estate.

Also .. Monthly subscriptions to the dealer service databases (whatever the technical name is). I know very $$$

Yes, but wouldn't DIY maintenance violate the warranty/CPO? Please tell me I'm wrong here. I thought part of the deal with CPO was 3000 upfront and whatever routine maintenance that you need to buy at the dealer.

There was a quite revealing article on the upgrades that Mercedes and Porsche push on their dealers. Very expensive very draconian

Yeah my local guys were telling me how they had like 65% of the floor space was dedicated to show models and Porsche decreed it had to be 75% or something so they had to renovate the whole building. And it was spotless before.

Short answer is NO if you know what you are doing and keep records.

Long answer is YES if you screw something up during your DIY activities that makes a covered part fail. They might not cover the repair. This goes with new car warranties as well I imagine.

Know your limitations and have fun.
