Platinum silver comprared to Rhioudium silver

What's the thoughts on these two colors compared to one another. I'm in the middle of no where so going to see in person isn't a option. Looking at a 2013 right now and need to know if that silver is for me or the 2014 silver is for me.

STG 02-27-2016 10:22 PM

Platinum = champagne tint to it. warmer color

Rhodium = bluish tint. cooler color

STG 02-27-2016 10:26 PM

These pics capture Rhodium's tint well.

GT Silver. The Champagne hue under certain lighting is beautiful.

Yes, very unique. A very light bronze (or similar) like tint under certain angles and light. Hard to capture in a picture.

Definitely not a 100% pure silver.

Platinum certainly has a tan/beige hue. It changes quite a bit with lighting
I wouldn't go with that color again but it was nice.

It's interesting that someone else saw the champagne hue. I thought I was the only one that could see it because no one that I talked to could.

I have GT Silver and have spent many hours admiring it under different conditions. My car in the above pic.

beaverlake 02-27-2016 11:19 PM

Rhodium is certainly a cool silver; definitely a shift toward blue.

STG 02-27-2016 11:25 PM

They're all great colors. Just personal preference.

Rhodium replaced Platinum as a standard offering in 2014.

Platinum Silver reminds me too much like GT Silver. The only other silver I liked just as much was my 2001 BMW M3 in Titanium Silver.

No, not even close. Yes, both silvers, but easily distinguishable.

DrCGuerra 02-27-2016 11:43 PM

That may be true since I never saw Platinum Silver but I do see the champagne hue in my GT Silver.

On Platinum it's very evident when looking at it.

GT Silver is like a chameleon color. Changes a lot under different lighting conditions.

DrCGuerra 02-27-2016 11:50 PM

Agree. That is a perfect description.

Chris C. 02-28-2016 03:28 AM

Rhodium is a new version of Polar. I like it.

To me GT silver is a classic. Gorgeous.

(I've had to many silver cars - need more color personally)

I like my platinum silver C4S but when it's next to other silver cars it looks like it's brown.

Yes, I have both Polar in a 993 and Rhodium in a 991. The colors are extremely close.

I like platinum silver. Very classy. Rhodium is the closest thing to a "regular" silver

jason952 02-28-2016 10:45 AM

GT to me is the purest silver porsche offers, but still has a richness that some other german makers' silvers lack. rhodium is almost as good as polar.

BingoWest 02-28-2016 12:00 PM

Choosing among Porsche silvers is like choosing among three beautiful women with the same hair color (choose your favorite color). One can't go wrong.

OTM 02-29-2016 02:23 AM

All great colors. At one point or another I liked each of them best. Pulled the trigger on GT Silver but I love seeing any of the other silver 911s in the wild.

The white balance is pretty far off-kilter in that picture; this version's a bit closer to reality.

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...5fdf7eadc4.jpg

Even after tweaking the pic, I'd say that platinum is a bit browner than what's shown here, while rhodium is a bit bluer, and agate is a little lighter. I'm not that familiar with GT Silver so can't say how close it is.

You are correct.

I'd say the actual car pics I posted in the beginning are pretty accurate. This swatch pic isn't a good picture or representation.

The GT Silver in the swatch looks darker than reality.

Just gave my platinum silver car a good scrub down today and I'm aways surprised how well it hides road grime. Before washing I was like I really don't need to wash.... but after the last drop of water was dried off I'm like WOW this thing looks great :)

woodranch 02-29-2016 08:21 PM

That is definitely not GT Silver! Not even close. Have to agree with STG

Arcoril 02-29-2016 11:51 PM

Just to add a data point, my car is Agate Grey and I'd say it's much closer to the uncorrected pic in real life. Any automatic white balance adjustments are just guessing unless there's some sort of reference like a 50% gray card.

KKeebler 03-01-2016 06:39 AM

I have a Rhodium Silver C2S... it really depends on the lighting, sometimes it has a blue tint, sometimes it doesn't at all.

Those are two excellent photos to show the changeability of rhodium silver.

I also have a rhodium silver 911S, and I concur.

Key Left 03-02-2016 10:07 AM

If it means anything, Rhodium Silver was discontinued after two model years. Platinum Silver endured over many model years and was one of the launch colors for the 991 introduction ad campaign , along with GT Silver.

Dan991 03-02-2016 11:10 AM

Rhodium is not available anymore?

I think you might have it backwards. Rhodium Silver is still available.

jsaviano 03-02-2016 05:47 PM

My car is Rhodium silver and I really like it. Yes, it has a slight bluish tint, which works well with the yachting blue interior. It would probably work well with the newer blue interior as well.

MKW 03-02-2016 07:29 PM

Platinum silver looks quite bronzy/ beigy in morning or late afternoon light ....giving it a side benefit of hiding dust( tan-colored ) and pollen ( light yellow-colored ) pretty much completely even weeks after a wash .
Compare its warm tone to the std silver colored wheels :

No, you have it backwards. Rhodium silver is discontinued and no longer on the Carerra configuration. Was active for only two years. Platinum silver was discontinued in 2014 after about eight years of activity.

DrCGuerra 03-03-2016 01:38 PM

When I was ordering my 2016 GTS, Rhodium Silver was an option but I elected to get GT Silver. I just went to Porsche's website to build a new 2016 GTS and Rhodium silver was still listed as an option: Rhodium Silver Metallic-$710.

chuckbdc 03-03-2016 02:01 PM

Welcome to Porsche silver roulette.

Spin the wheel annually for a variation in hue and cost.

Even the ageless GT managed to go from very special to merely special this year.

I have had several. Platinum is the best and my favorite because that's what I now have. :icon501:

Rhodium Silver is available on the current 991.2 configurator. Platinum Silver is not.

At Porsche USA site only GT Silver is still available for a Carerra.

Not when I go to the Porsche USA Build Your Own site.

Rhodium Silver is definitely available for the New 911 Carrera and 911S, as is GT Silver. Both $710 options.

Key Left 03-03-2016 02:45 PM

My mistake I misread the color chips, thought Rhodium looked like white.
That's how cool that color looks to me.

mb1 03-03-2016 02:49 PM

Not sure where you're looking, Rhodium and GT Silver are both clearly available for Carreras on the current Porsche USA configurator. I'm looking at it right now.

mb1 03-03-2016 02:49 PM

Sorry. You're reply came through as I was typing.
