Default 991.2 front inlet screens DIY beta test

This is still beta testing, but so far so good. I've not yet decided whether to use one of the two commercially available solutions found here on RList, so while I ponder, I made some of my own. 1/4" stainless steel welded mesh, finest wire gauge I could get (had to buy far more than I need, so if you want a piece for cheap, lemme know), satin black powder coated, cut to match cardboard templates I made, and black zip-tied in place.

Yes, black zipties don't seem consistent with a $200k car, but neither do unprotected radiators that need to be replaced periodically due to ingestion damage. And unlike the radiator damage, the adverse appearance of the zip ties is only noticeable to nuts like us who inspect details closely while parked.....no one else will see them.

I did this on a 996TT I had with fine results - the debris I vacuumed out before installing the screens was unreal, and the screens held up to projectiles really well.

The advantage of these (besides cheap) is that installation is far easier than removing the front bumper, and I can easily remove them periodically to vacuum out debris, without removing the front bumper. Probably remove all three in under 3 minutes. Snip snip snip snip, bend slide, done. After cutting to shape, I spent maybe 10 minutes on the zip tie install. It'll be faster next time.

These photos were taken without flash on purpose....so that the relatively obscure appearance (especially the zip ties) is reproduced in the photos.

These have now been "wind tunnel tested" on the great mid-week Yosemite road trip with no adverse affects. They stay in place, and they don't seem to bend from the testing. I've not yet hit a good sized rock, since I think that would deform this mesh......but I'm pretty sure these will keep such rocks from contacting the radiators at ____ mph.....you fill in the blank.

Love those carbon sills.

Totally forgot where I ordered them but there was a thread on RL that talked about them and the link is buried somewhere there .
I do recall they were shipped from China.
Thanks for the nice comments

Looks great. I agree: I'd do zip ties all day for ease of maintenance and no bumper removal.

Local shop, OmegaWorks, did a quality front clear bra install for me a few weeks ago, and had to remove the bumper to get at the headlights for removal. We spent some time looking over the changes from 991.1 headlight removal...apparently driven by vulnerability to theft. Interesting stuff. Butttttt my main point is that bumper removal on 991.2Turbo is apparently a pain. If the shop thinks that, I'm not doin' it. So I need to interview options for screens that don't require bumper removal. We removed the bumper on the 996TT without too much hassle.....but the process on the new cars is move involved. I at least avoided duct tape.

Bought some time ago but finally got the CF illuminated door sills installed. Also had Blackvue Front and Rear dash cams installed, and the NavTV backup cam. All done by someone in Northern NJ.
Apparently, it took him 3-4 hours to install the illuminated door sills as I didn't have the wiring. He said he had to remove the seats?

Default H&R Lowering Springs & Spacers

Had H&R springs & H&R 7MM Spacers installed all the way around. I ordered the 15MM spacers at the same time so we could try them on the back, but they stuck out too much so I went with the 7's all the way around. Work done at europeanroadandracing.com

Looks really nice, just right on the height. Which H&R did you use and did it change the ride comfort?

Wow! Beautiful Steering Wheel! Can that be done to a 2014 991 C4S with paddles and Sport/Sport Plus Steering Wheel?

Thanks! I used the H&R for SPASM / 991.2. The spacers are also H&R. When they came in the box said 14MM but that's combined 7+7.

Ride comfort is the same if not ever so slightly more comfortable in sport suspension mode. Haven't tried normal mode; don't use it

I've had good and not as good luck with H&R springs, loved them on my previous P-cars until I tried on my M4, they were way too soft. However the front stiffness feels just right and tight in these. So I'm very happy.
