[QUOTE=beaverlake;13251920]Many months ago Tony put up for sale a pair of aftermarket exhaust tips, then he found Gudrun and decided to wait to see if he wanted to keep the GTS black tips or swap out. He decided to stay with the black tips so I benefited from a good deal. They arrived over the weekend and I got them installed today. Look to be very good quality - and I don't know the offshore source (Tony?). Installation was 5 minutes with a 12-point ⅜ socket (and some help from a rubber mallet). Then another 20-25 minutes fussing with adjusting the tips relative to the car and to each other. Worth it in the end. Thanks Tony!

Here are a couple of pics with the old ones resting on the plastic bubble wrap - sorry, I forgot to snap a "before" shot. ghl

Reply: Look great Gordon Almost kept those double wall tips and had powedercoated black. IMHO nicer to look at and beefier than the stock tips. Gave all reciepts to new owner of the 50th, maybe he will chime in on where to source them. T

Do the bigger tips make it significantly louder, or is it more a visual thing?

Wow! Super cool. I'd love to know if this is a straight swap for a standard Sport steering wheel with paddles. Expensive with the airbag? Source?

Thanks!

Blendmount installed with Escort Max 360. The first Blendmount did not have enough vertical adjustment. They shipped a replacement extension section. If you order one, make sure you let them know that you need the longer extension, otherwise the radar will be jammed against the mirror and even then not horizontal! Looks good now. Just got to get it wired to the fusebox :-)

Taken from VBOX Motorsports website, the VBOX Sport is "A light-weight, portable data logger that can be used in any vehicle and environment to measure performance or lap times".

Here's a great thread to read about it from FergusH:

https://rennlist.com/forums/data-acq...precision.html

TWS is Texas World Speedway. TWS is one of only seven Super Speedways in the USA and is the only Super Speedway in the Southwest. TWS's oval became known as "The World's Fastest Speedway" when Mario Andretti set a world closed course speed record of 214.158 mph on October 6, 1973 while qualifying for an Indy car race. Many clubs track their cars there. It will be my first time at this course. Everyone that has tracked their cars there have raved about it. The track needs repair and many rumors about its closing so I am trying to get out there before that happens.

Cheers for the info. Looks like a nifty device! Enjoy the TWS track.

Okay we need to know if this works straight up retrofit on a 991 or not! Please fill us in. I see Suncoast is now noting on their site that folks are ordering these to retrofit and adding a disclaimer that if they don't work then they may not be returned. So info please.

Rob

PS..oh yeah I pulled the trigger in motion for a new exhaust. Loved the Akra but my wife vetoed that idea and got an AWE instead. The Art of the Deal and staying married! LOL

I got them for the look - but I recall reading that some folks thought the shape did slightly change the sound. I kinda doubt it, but I'll put the top down tomorrow and see if I notice any difference.

Hi Mechanicalrepair,
I also plan to exchange the instrument dials. Do you have some DIY guidelines? Or do you take it to a garage?

Griot's portable water deionizer.

Because black car and well water don't mix.

Regarding any impact on exhaust sound as a result of changing exhaust tips: It's hard to separate a "placebo effect" from reality, but I think that the new exhaust tips didn't have much impact on the sound. If they did, and this is of course highly subjective (with the top down) - the effect was a bit more mellow sound, a little less raspy. I'm not sure if that 's a good thing or not. In any case, the impact, if anything good or bad, is far outweighed by the appearance.
