Congratulations, and so great that you got a car you love driving. Beware of the second addiction: This site! I don't post a lot, but probably check the 991 board hourly just to see what's going on.

Does your wife have a sister?

Congrats on both the car and the new phase in your life.

Congrats on the retirement first and foremost, and of course on the 911. She's a beaut. Enjoy in good health.

Beautiful car! I can relate, having spent 20 years in the NYPD (now on a second career as an Attorney, mostly representing law enforcement officers). But, when I retired, all I could afford was a new Harley, lol.

Fast forward a few years into my second career and when the current generation Corvette came out,I was smitten. I wanted one and started figuring how to make it happen. I started reading about the car, checking out the blogs, etc. Beautiful car, But then, I remembered my old Targa and the way that car made me FEEL when I drove it. I sold that car almost 20 years ago,but never forgot it. That was when
I realized that what I really, truly wanted was another 911... The Corvette is beautiful, but the 911, as they say, is some next level ****!

Enjoy retirement, have fun driving that thing, and remember, Black is the fastest color!

Clean black car. You made the right decision vs stereotypical Corvette. Congrats!

I told her that I have always like Porsches, but I only wanted a 911, as there would not be enough room in the Cayman. I always thought a 911 would be out of my price range. She tells me to go see what I could find. So, I look on the local Porsche dealers web site and I find a 2014 CPO 991 base with only 7000 miles on it! It was a little more that I would have spent on the Corvette, but was in my price range (as I was paying cash), As far as extras, it has PDK, PDLS, Premium Package with the 14 way seats. Also has the Bose system. The only thing it did not come with that I really wanted was the PSE. After a week of negotiations between car sales, parts sales, and Service, my salesman was able to get me a great deal. So hopefully next week it will have PSE! It is not my DD, as I have a Raptor for that job, but I have been driving it a lot. The more I drive it the more I am in love with this car! Thanks to JR at Porsche of San Antonio!

I had a vette myself. Great car and a lot of bang for the buck. But after my first car show, I think your wife was right lol. I agree on the build quality of the Porsche as well. Its the total experience!

Congratulations on your purchase. Black car with silver wheels is the best combination there is IMO.

Thank you for your service and welcome!

Congrats on your retirement and the car. I retired from ATF in Miami twelve years ago after 28 years in law enforcement. Enjoying my 997 is a big part of my retirement, starting to look for a 991 now. Have had Corvettes in the past, no comparison.

Enjoy your retirement !

Congrats on the new purchase!

Similiar situation here... I had decided to buy a C7 Corvette. Drove a '15 Z51 A8 with 4K miles at my local dealer and drove a friend's '16 Z06 7M... never thought I'd say this but the Z06 scared the crap out of me. If you punch it will not hook up untll 4th gear, TC kicking in and out--car has too much power for RWD, wickedly fast but I would end up dead or in jail. The Z51 ran great and the handling was very nice too... was about to close the deal on one I found in the color I wanted until I drove a '13 C2S PDK at my wife's urging. It made the Corvettes feel plasticy--cheap. Wide gaps between the body panels and trim pieces, little rattles everywhere, etc. She did not like the Corvette and much preferred the P-car.

Bang for the buck it is hard to beat the newest Corvettes--but the C2S will match or beat the Z51 in every performance measurement (even though they are uncannily close) and just has a more composed, higher quality feel to it. Also much better visibility and easier ingress/egress. Guess I'm offically getting old, but that means the extra $$$ is worth it... my search for the 'right' C2S continues.

You are so right about your impressions of the Z06, I drove a friends with the Z07 package which gives you insane racing slicks as tires (ok they aren't really slicks but you get the idea) and that car was so insanely fast that I kept telling my friend this car shouldn't be sold to someone unless they can prove they have had sports cars in the past and can drive it.

At 55 mph the car would spin it's tires when you floor it, all I could think of is someone without experience is going to floor it while going around an exit ramp and will crash ... I never thought I would say this about a car but it really is too fast for the roads.

To the OP: congrats on your new car, it is a real beauty, at 7,000 miles it isn't even broken in yet ... Enjoy !!
