Short comment: Everyone certainly wants a car that cost as much as a 911 to arrive in perfect shape. But, as noted above, the lip will take a beating as you drive the car and if the dealership replaces and repaints it to your satisfaction then it is not that big of a deal. Still, you deserve to be 100 percent satisfied when you sign for delivery. Dealer repaired or factory replacement, whichever makes you feel whole.

Long Comment: At the Port of Entry, many manufacturers have body shop facilities that repair minor damage that occurs during shipping. Cars come off the boat, clear customs and are prepped/inspected. As correctly stated above, you will not even know if your car has had damage repair done as ownership has not yet passed and there is no law (that I know of) that compels disclosure. Further, even the dealer that a car is destined for may not even be aware of any damage repair at the port.

All that said, given your dealer has made you aware of this, I wonder if the crack occurred after prep/inspection while the car was being loaded on to the transporter. This, I assume the dealer would be aware of as Chain of Custody probably requires disclosure at this point. And if that is the case, the dealer may be required to inform you. Whatever the scenario, you should think of that lip as a disposable item, like brake pads or tires. After a few thousand miles it will get scraped and chipped and show wear and tear. A possibility, that might put you back in the 100 percent satisfied zone, is to have the dealership replace it to your satisfaction and, aside from normal wear and tear, ask them to assure you (preferably in writing) that the paint work will stand up. You might also ask for some swag or a discount on servicing/parts to make up for the inconvenience. Ironically, as a favor to my salesman/dealership - and inconvenience to me, I took delivery of my 911 a week earlier than intended so they could get one more car into their monthly delivery/sales figures. Because I made them aware this was not an optimal situation, they gave me a $50 credit for some swag and, honestly, an at cost discount (in writing) on the front spoiler lip (for a 997.2 GTS) when I decided mine needed to be replaced - installed by them (meaning they clipped it on) for a small fee (which still worked out to be cheaper than the cost of buying it on-line)!)

That would be awesome if they would do that. It wouldn't cost them any more.

And it's true what others have said.... if you drive the car like some on here do that lip will take a beating. I had mine repainted before picking up my CPO'ed car just to go out and scrape the crap out of it and as it sits in my garage it's cracked in one spot after 2 years of beating. I'm considering this piece to be expendable Just like the 4/4S side skirts.

I've had my front lip painted at an authorized Porsche body shop and it matched perfectly w/ no issues. I wouldn't worry too much. As others have stated, this part will get banged up pretty fast and it's likely not a lifetime part.

Two points:

1) My 1995 993 was severely damaged after ED on the boat coming over to Charleston (in those days). I was informed by PCNA. I informed them that delivery was contingent upon my inspection and satisfaction. I flew to Charleston. In those days the delivery port was right next to the airport. I inspected the car repair and fell in love. I drove it home in 3 hours. What a treat!

2) The front lip on my 2015 991 GTS sits too low to get over anything. I beat it to death within the first 5 weeks of ownership. I bought a new lip from Suncoast, had it painted and installed locally and I am now pathologically careful. No damage! Porsche does not reimburse for damage due to design. Just buy a new lip and have it painted as a back-up. You may not ever have to use it! Who knows?
