do turbos ruin the 911?

Short answer: No.
Does turbo ONLY ruin the 911?: Yes.

Turbo or not, those 918 Spyder derived wheels are very nice. Holding on to my base 991. I want a small engine that revs, vs. a turbo engine, with low end torque filled synthesized sounds.

Based on owning a TTS, I can tell you that I don't believe turbos ruin things AT ALL.

I've driven some amazing 911 Turbos over the years. Many tens of thousands of miles. I feel privileged to have had the ownership experience.

Interesting take. I have to agree. I don't follow enough of the Boxter/Cayman chatter, but I assume those will still have an N/A version? Strange to think an all-motor P-car as the "down market" version. That being said, I find the new 911s intriguing.

Side note - I thought Autoblog had an interesting visual breakdown of some of the new features: http://www.motoroso.com/Autoblog/Gar...he-911-Carrera

No. Planet-9 (boxter/cayman central since Rennlist folks ran them off) are all in a tizzy about flat-4 turbos in the upcoming 981.2 generation.

The general consensus is that 981s, 981Ss will have F.I. flat-fours. The GT4 will continue to be N.A. Jury's out on the 981 GTS.

PAG is unsurprisingly not illuminating the discussion.

Another vote for "No. No they don't."

Agree! Great read, this.

Turbos will NOT ruin the 911. They've been making them for years.

The game just has been changed. We can play if we want. If not, there's plenty of older generations to choose from and the current GT models which are still NA going into 991.2

Although I'm not a turbo fan, Porsche makes the calls and I don't. They choose the path, and we decide if we buy in $$$... Pretty simple!

I too have owned several Porsche TT's and still wish I kept my 997TT. They were all great cars. Turbos won't ruin the 911 just change the game a bit. If Porsche stays on this path they will continue to evolve the Turbo engines and most will grow to love them.

Likewise. I miss my 2009 997 Turbo, and wish I could buy it back. Talk about mind blowing acceleration. I can only imagine the acceleration in the turbo S.

Having my cake and eating it too.

Got a '97 993TT and picking up a '16 991.1 MT Targa GTS. The last of the air cooled turbos (with a capital 'T') and the last of the normally aspirated Carreras.

Each exquisite swan songs in their own right.

You may never need to buy another Porsche again. That's a dynamic duo.
