Default How many miles do you get out of your rear tires?

After running a search through the 991 forums on tire wear, I saw a few threads on it but the answers were in such a large range that it was hard to determine what was around average.

The question is, how many miles do you get out of your rear tires (I'll assume that fronts are 2x the rears)? If you can, post what tires you're running as well!

Not sure how to respond to the poll as I have 9100 miles and 5-6/32" left on the rears. This is on the OEM Goodyear 19's on a base C2.

Feel free to give an estimate based on how many miles you think have left until you have to replace them

15,000 miles.

Could have gone a few thousand more miles, but I didn't want to chance it on an upcoming 1,800 mile road trip for Porsche Parade.

Maybe this set I'll try to push to 20,000. Already 1/2 way there.

P Zeros: all four needed to be replaced by 22k miles. Only one track event and mixed city/highway use.

2013 C4, 11,400 miles and the inside tread on both rears is 1/32 away from the wear bars. Outside tread 3/32. Original tires. PZeros, 20".

I just found today that passenger rear has a nail in the first block of tread about 2" from the sidewall, in the thick part of the tread. Not sure if this is patch-able from the inside, so I may be on to a new set on the rears since the inside tread is so close to the wear bar anyway.

I have a set wheels and tires (2K miles on them) in storage. OEM Carerra Classics and PZero's

Any idea if there is a shelf life on the rubber? I've heard yes.

Definitely yes.

6 years is the number that sticks in my mind.

As above, Tire Rack says 6 years. This assumes constant exposure to oxygen. If the tires are not on the car and are sealed from O2 and protected from extreme temperature cycling you can get a few more years.

What kills tires is exposure to ozone, and if you take steps to minimize that than the tires can go far longer than 6 years safely. For example, I have my OEM Pirelli tires and factory wheels in storage as I run HRE's and Michelins on the car. Proper storage means filling the tires with Nitrogen, as Oxygen has ozone it in and will cause the tire to rot from the inside out. Do a Nitrogen fill on the tires and you can eliminate that issue.

Next, tires should be sleeved (covered) and out of the sunlight, preferably in a basement over in a dark corner and away from the furnace as the furnace emits ozone as well. Do that and you can pull then out a decade later and they will be fine.

BTW, this is not internet lore, I learned this from a friend of mine who is a senior tire engineer for BF Goodrich.

I had OEM Pirelli's on mine with 9k miles when I bought it. I replaced all 4 at 26k miles. Probably could have got another 5k out of them but I had a slow leak develop in one of them so I pulled the trigger.
