Default New 911R (Manual GT3) Official?

Well, here's the first bit of news about the much discussed Motorsports N/A manual 991. Looks to be a limited run and is already pre-sold out if this author is to be believed.

http://www.vierenzestig.nl/20883/por...r-met-handbak/

First: the Porsche 911R comes with manual transmission
Porsche still has listened to its customers. The brand unveils next June (Le Mans? Goodwood?) A GT car that is equipped with a manual transmission. The car will be built in a limited edition of between 600 and 800 copies and comes with a retro interior and a 3.8 or 4.0 GT3 or GT3 RS engine.

Rennsport
On the outside the car is recognizable by the absence of flashy spoilers. This is a car for an entire day driving, according to several customers who have ordered it and we spoke about this model at Rennsport Reunion in California. The reason for the name R 911 can be traced back to the year 1967, when the 911 R conquered circuits thanks to its lightweight body and engine speed. The car is probably the end of next year on the market, supposedly as model year 2017, which the 50th anniversary of the 911 R is celebrated.

Sold Out
Pictures have not yet surfaced, but think a GT3 without spoilers with a retro design and perhaps a few lighter made parts, or the absence of a number of luxury items to lighten the car. Run to the dealer does not make sense, because allegedly all copies have been sold. Dealers have this car because offered to customers who have asked if there was a GT3-like with manual transmission would come. Porsche itself is covered in silence on the model.

My understanding is nothing has been confirmed or released to the dealers. 918 buyers still get prefererence.

This car will be IMPOSSIBLE to get. You have a better chance of getting a GT3RS allocation with a 10% discount thrown in.

Agree Very unlikely and especially that they would be pre sold without anyone knowing what it is.

If a 991.2 GT3 is slated to have a three pedal option I don't know how much significant market interest a 911R would achieve aside from the obvious trendsetting must have collector toy.

I question if these have been 'sold out'. Typically cars like this are done on an allotment basis to dealers, and Porsche will not accept any orders until after its officially announced. What they usually do is tell dealers to take deposits after the announcement, submit them all - and they they decide who gets what. Dealers are informed via email by Porsche, so they all get notice at the same time.

Obviously Jay Leno or Jerry Seinfeld get right to the top of the list if they want one ... that sort of thing.

Having spoken to one or two 918 owners I've been told repeatedly that Porsche has guaranteed them first right of refusal for any new or limited models for X number of years because they bought 918s. These are the guys that snapped up the GT4s before any were allotted to dealers. I have no doubt that if this car really exists the 918 owners were (or will be) given the chance to buy them. I'm skeptical about the car myself, but if you had $1million to spend on a 918 then my guess is that you'd be willing to buy up another limited release model which is sure to soar in value over time. The 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0 has set a dangerous precedent for limited end-of-model run specials.

for those of us who already have a manual GT3/RS in collection, I don't see the attraction and importance of this model at all

While I do love the 997 gt3/RS there is something magical about the 991 chassis. The balance is quite phenominal. I would almost say it's perfect. Except for the understeer felt on tight turns. Porsche addresses that with all wheel steering but the physics of the car are inherent. Without much weight up front the problem still exists and will continue to.
It's like a flaw on a beautiful woman. Sometimes it's what makes her more attractive.
