When the time comes to sell the car - how much of a value do people put on the car having been "dealer serviced" ? As opposed to serviced at an indy, or DIY by the owner? This should come into play when evaluating what's a reasonable price for this service done at the dealer right?

8/20/21: Seven years after the post, I appreciate the information. I know all of this is in the Owners Manual, but its convenient to have it on a piece of paper as a check list.
One of my CA Porsche dealer is quoting me $2,200...there are several more in the area....I'll just do a little shopping.

Hi there,
My Porsche is a 2012 911s (991 model). It's approaching 40000 miles. The P dealer ask for $2200 plus tax for the 40000 miles maintenance. I also called a body shop and they said they could do the same job under $1000. What should I do? Anybody know what's important to change at 40000 miles?

Service records are key for sure. If your Porsche Indy had techs that used to work at a dealer, then they likely have more experience than the dealer techs. If the Indy in your area is well respected and well known in the Porsche community, having service there won’t be a negative compared to having it done by the dealer. Might actually be a plus.

I just got the 40k service at Porsche of Orlando for $3700 with a “PCA discount “. Originally $4000. I find that it is an obscene amount of money for what they do to the car. At $250 an hour for labor where parts don’t ad to $400. The cost does not at up. I recommend to anyone with a CPO CAR to do the service elsewhere and keep your records to update at the dealer. You can do service elsewhere as long as it gets done. The car the service done in a day in lass than 3 hours. It was done on Porsche cayenne s 2019. I am interested in knowing what are others paying in 2023. Thank you everyone for the support.

I paid $1923.69 in April of 2022 at Porsche of North Olmsted, Ohio [near Cleveland airport] with a small discount [$53.76] applied for being PCA member. Labor rate was $175/hr. The service included new spark plugs, engine air and oil filters, cabin filters, 8.5 qts Mobil 1 and engine oil flush [$53.10], new windshield wiper blades, new battery in key fob, and top off of all fluids. Total labor charge was $606.86. Rear decklid [engine cover] struts were replaced under CPO warranty. Vehicle was actually in-service slightly more than 5 years when this 40,000 miles service was performed and vehicle had 27,301 miles on its odometer at that time.
A year later thanks to the excellent information provided by others on this forum, I decided to try doing the oil and filter change myself, and as others who encouraged me to do it myself said: Easy Peasy!

The only thing I will say is if you keep the car long term, those dealer service costs really add up and will eat into your resale value. I have had my 991.1 for about 8 years and did all but one service myself for pennies on the dollar for what the dealer would want. I have easily saved 8k. I am sure I didnt take an 8k hit on resale. If I were to sell I am sure it will sell, maybe not to someone here but a clean long term owner speaks volumes to a buyer.

My 2019 CPO I got in October came with prepaid maintenance for the 4 year service through Porsche and the 5 year is included too. The six year service will be pricey as it’s the drive belt, PDCC service and AWD controller oil service. I could do the drive belt but I’ve not seen any threads in here on PDCC and AWD controller service. But that’s two years away.

What are people paying for the PDCC service these days? It was explained to me they replace the reservoir, it's not something they can "top up", so lots of disassembly to get at it and then the cost of the components on top.

I think there was a thread in here on PDCC service. Also, since I have RWS, the table says I will need a new Li battery at 6 years....and that's like 2300 or so. It'll be a pricey six-year service indeed.

People taking their car to a dealer for "peace of mind" are throwing away their money, you will never recoup it in resale value. Who cares what the Carfax says (aside from no accidents)? Seriously, take a look at task list for these major services, most are nonsense to pad the bill starting with "inspect" or "check", "check horn operation" is on the list. LOL. Anyone can do 90% of the stuff on the list for almost nothing.
There are some real tasks like spark plugs at 40k and PDCC reservoir at 60k, but doing them at the dealer is foolish. The MSRP for "genuine Porsche" spark plugs is $27.08 each which is what a dealership will charge. They are actually Bosch plugs that you can find for $6 each online.
Seeing dealer service on a Carfax tells me the owner probably didn't change their oil often enough and wasn't real smart with their money. Not much more.
