Default Could use veteran advice for a first time buyer!!!

Hello All!

I have recently decided to stop dreaming about one day owning a 911 and have decided to go out and do it. My intent is to get a used 911 c2s cab in manual. I have found a few that match my needs. But this one in particular will serve to answer most of my questions.

The car in question: http://www.porscheofsouthshore.com/c...ed7d1c175a.htm

My questions:

1) As they state, this is a 2012, which leads me to believe this is an 991.1 But I sat in a 2013 Manual and the trim inside was definitely different than in the pictures. Is this actually a 991 or one of the last 997s?

1b) does anything catch your eye that I should investigate?

2) Has anybody worked with this dealer before?

3) I live in Chicago. The car is in NY (but at a licensed Porsche dealer). Does anyone have advice for I could best go about inspecting the car? ie. have a friend of mine take a look at it, or possibly a friendly Rennlister?

4) The carfax states that in May 2013 it had the Clutch Start Plate replaced. Has anyone experienced this? Or is this just a simple Clutch swap?

5) Is it worth having a car shipped to another Porsche dealer or just fly out and drive it back?

6) Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

Looks like a nicely optioned CPO car with low miles... Take the leap, the water's just fine!

The VIN and pictures on the listing correspond to a 997.2. The 997.2 and 991 both existed for model year 2012 so many people differentiate 2012 991s by calling them 2012.5s.

The tail lights and DRL's really give it away that it's a 997.

Neat color..... reminds me of an Audi TT color.

Highly recommend you check this thread out - great resource on finding low mileage CPO 911s that STG updates regularly!

have an independent inspection done. If it passes, a CPO car is great. This is a transitional car from 997 to 991. It looks more like a 997 than a 991 but do not trust me. The details, if the independent inspection comes out true, make this a very wise purchase.

Totally 997... Rear impact bumpers, in fact basically different rear and front. Shorter. Totally different interior. 997. Which isn't a bad thing....

It's a 997.2 no questions asked.

How about this one? A 2012.5 991

Same miles & price. Newer generation. No CPO though.

Not the most loaded, but 40K off sticker. I would try and get them down to low 70's?

Also, the fact the mirror attachment point is on the door (991) versus on the corner of the window (997).

I'd be hard pressed, all things being equal, why you wouldn't opt for the above 991 Cab.

Wow. Thanks for the follow up! What a happy ending. So glad you snatched this up. It looks mint.

What a beautiful color too. Is it really Platinum Grey?? What does the build sheet say. I've never seen this color before. When I found that car a while back, it really popped out to me as an attractive car.
