I have been trying to replicate my favorite build on the new configurator and there a few small things missing:

1) front and rear parking sensors with backup camera
2) instrument dials in white
3) satellite radio

Is it a case of the configurator not being final or are they standard now?

Thank you in advance

When the 991 was launched some of us were (are) critical of its design (longer WB, wider front track, e-steering, e-ebrake, etc.). That was a major change, a significant inflection point on 911 design with significant impact on its dynamics. Of course, the 991 fans denied all of that and went on merrily. Now the latter seem to be critical of the 991.2 which (to a degree) may bring back some of the 911 dynamic characteristics...

I will have to drive the new car to find out, but I suspect that rear wheel steering and (God forbid) a heavier engine might bring back the feel of rear bias, a plus for true 911 fans. Sure, more mass is not desirable but one can always eliminate heavy and out-of-place options in a sports car (e.g., stereos, parking sensors, satellite radios, backup cameras) to compensate for mass in the right spots.

So when will the order book open and when will production start for the U.S. Market?

Who cares how it sounds? The majority of what you hear in your 991 is all engineered sound dynamics anyways.

The exciting part is that most likely KO3 Turbochargers X2 and around 450whp with a tune... That is some serious ****.

Defend 100hp advantage over the older car? You can't..

Exactly, if you aren't afraid of making your own ECU maps, the future is bright. I suspect the engine is perfectly capable of making 450whp with just a tune ($1000-2000 even with the hefty Porsche tax). And if that isn't enough, I am sure there will be bolts on like intercooler and catless exhaust down the line for making +500whp as well.

The best part is that you aren't limited to the manual gearbox with upgraded clutch, as the PDK hardware is proven to be able to handle the extra power and the stress added by the AWD traction just fine on the Turbo models.

I feel like this car might do the same thing for Porsche aftermarket tuning like what 335i did for BMW a decade ago, as it opened up a whole new community of aftermarket support that just aren't limited to overpriced exhaust and forge wheels...

So, I guess Porsche is now doing the Ferrari thing with the **** on the wheel.

Do like the look of the tail lights. Not sure about the rear grill.

I think I'll keep my .1 for now. Will wait for the next gen.

According to the build sheet front and rear sensors and backup camera are standard across the range. That'll upset a few people!

Thank you for that. I suspect the purists will hate it, but realistically long overdue for a $100k++ car, IMO...

I think that's because the DOE regulation which requires all new cars to have rear view camera by 2017. Pretty sure Porsche would still love to charge you $700 for a $2 camera... Honestly, the cameras on the newer Porsches are absolutely crap when it comes to clarity and dynamic range. Even the Kia Rio I had as a rental a year ago has better camera than the Macan Turbo I drove...

No drama. The only way I could find the full specs was to do a quick build and print the results. The online brochure is pretty useless as normal .

Actually I can defend the older car b/c of a lack of turbo lag. Despite what they do and say I have yet to see a turbo where it has been completely eliminated.

Having owned a 991 C4S and now 991 GT3, the rear wheel steering is great.... but not so thrilled about the extra mass over the rear axle.
