As you've noticed, our car's coolant comes up to operating temp (194) very fast. Heck, coolant reaches 100 before I'm at the bottom of my driveway. Oil lags it significantly. Seems like forever sometime.
I always stay below 4,000 rpm until oil temp comes up. I like to see oil temps in the 180s before I get on it.

I do not have an oil temp gage in my cars so I just go by the coolant temp gage and let the needle climb to where it normally resides then drive some more before really hammering on the engine.
With as much oil as these engines carry what can and probably does happen -- I've seen this with machine tools with large oil system reservoirs -- is not all of the oil is up to temperature. Then a real big demand for oil can have the warm oil and a lot of the colder oil pulled into the system. The concern is the colder oil won't flow as well to the bearing interfaces and the bearings can suffer wear and tear due to inadequate lubrication.

Oil temp at or above the artificially pegged " 194 " of the water temp
On my MFD, I stack read outs of oil temp first, then oil pressure, water temperature and lastly voltage , esp since the first three critical items are completely hidden by the steering wheel rim , worsened by their tiny needles in their dark caves, including the important fuel gauge ..it would be so easy to shrink the mandated but old school large but hard to read analog speedometer ( I always read speed digitally ) to allow info like above and esp fuel gauge to be moved more inward so that my default MFD screen is not used redundantly and wastefully , but neccesarily , as on the current car .

+1 to what MKW wrote. I look at the MFD gauge which seems to indicate about 160 to get of the blue part of the digital MFD display. Other than the tach and the MFD the gauges are useless and I Agee that a redesign is in order.

My technician (factory) says Oil at 165+' F before exceeding 4000RPM or going into Sport/Sport + mode (I have X51 and third cooler opens when Sport/+ engaged also).

I had been using 180 in the absence of certainty. However, I had been hitting Sport Plus when I started out-based on the above, I will hold off until the oil is warmed up. Thanks for the replies.

I'm in Sport Plus 99.9% of the time. 7 MT and the PowerKit. I keep below 4,000 till the oil hits operating temp. My UOA's are excellent. See my oil analysis post.
