Point being, the usual good (if obvious) advice about not tailgating, staying away from large trucks, avoiding gravel roads, and so forth doesn't help a bit anymore. At 20K miles my paint looks like I went through an asteroid field. My last Porsche ('92) didn't look like this after 5x the mileage, and it was driven exactly the same way.
As owners we should be a lot more pissed off than we are about this.

Went to a dealer and checked out preowned cars. 997s hold up way better than the 991s as far as the chipping...really its the "white speckling" that the extremely minor debris cause vs the legit stones (those always went thru). Its really ridiculous. I don't mind repainting front bumpers at all (even if it annoying as hell), but it SUCKS when its on the damn hood or fenders.

Just find a car with clear bra or one that is low mileage and put a clear bra on after. You just need to see the cars up close before pulling the trigger is all.

Or just drive the heck out of it and get the bumper and maybe hood resprayed 100k miles down the road. Yeah it's annoying but the only ones that are gonna care at resale are the same folks that think 20k is high mileage so you're not going to sell to them anyway. In the meantime, Dr Colorchip FTW.
From what I've heard several parts are painted off body and even off site during assembly yet they match perfectly fine. I don't think it's much of an issue getting a great match from a quality shop these days, especially with the fairly conservative color options available.
