It won't matter to me, as one who has come back to the NA fold from a 911 Turbo. But I can see it appealing to someone who is more interested in the big numbers and less interested in power delivery, but doesn't want to lay down 180+k for a car. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Photos and Details of the Facelifted 2016 Porsche 911 Emerge
Over the past few years, we have reported several times that Porsche would kill the naturally aspirated flat-six in the 911 as of this fall. Now Porsche confirms the move—by means of a prototype drive of the facelifted model, which appeared in the German magazine Auto Bild.
We take away a few things from our colleague Jürgen Zöllter’s ride-along in the updated 911. First of all, visual changes are kept to a relative minimum: There are minor tweaks to the head- and taillights, and on the Carrera and Carrera S, the two exhaust pipes move to the center. A protruding black sphere up front hints at the inevitable assistance systems, which now include lane-departure warning for those distracted sports-car drivers.
The big news, of course, is under the hood: In the interest of efficiency and to fall into a more favorable tax bracket in China, Porsche has downsized the Carrera’s 3.4-liter engine and the 3.8-liter unit in the Carrera S to 3.0 liters. Thanks to turbocharging, however, output grows from 350 to 370 horsepower, and from 400 to 420 horsepower (Carrera and Carrera S, respectively). Maximum torque rises to 369 lb-ft, available from 1700 rpm. According to Porsche’s August Achleitner, the low-rpm torque peak means that it is far less often necessary to shift out of the manual transmission’s ultra-tall seventh gear. Fuel economy in the notoriously optimistic European cycle increases to 33.6 mpg; it was rated at 29.4 mpg in the standard Carrera before.
While top speed remains unchanged and the factory’s acceleration figures drop by 0.1 second, the sound-enhanced engine exhibits different driving characteristics. Zöllter reports that acceleration drops off beyond 5000 rpm, and if the driver wants to use the tail to help steer the car, boost pressure must be kept up meticulously.
A four-wheel-steering system will join the options list, as will a front lift system to protect the 911’s protruding snout from curbs and road bumps. The drive mode selector for the costly Sport Chrono package moves to the steering wheel.
With its softer soundtrack and added assistance systems, the 911 will appeal to a wider set of buyers. On the track, it should do at least as well as its predecessor. But the general trend is undeniable: Purity makes way for digital enhancement.
Looks like they're gaming the EU Test Cycle for a substantial improvement in numbers, while extracting that from the driving experience. Can't say I blame them, but it still sucks for those who like to work it to get their performance.

The limiter is 7500, the writer describes "a strong push grabbing us, growing linearly" from 1800 through 3000 where the symposers kick in, making the mechanical noise louder until 5000 it pushes ahead until it loses its sustainability "to the trip needle runs at 7500"?
Does that mean it stops pushing btw 5000-7500 as c&d suggest or that it runs out of steam at the limiter?

Definitely a reference to the acceleration peaking at 5000rpm before you hit the 7500rpm redline. I must say the updated PCM looks/sounds nice too...
In the first picture in that article, the front shot of the dark colored car on the dirt road, the intake section on the bumper looks like swollen lips.
From the Autobild pics, it looks as though the Xenon headlights now have four small LEDs similar to the LED headlights, and it looks as though MT cars do not have the Sport/Sport+ **** on the steering wheel. The buttons remain on the console. Also, I think we're all going to be jealous of the new PCM screen.

Some of the cars (presumably the S) seem to retain the quad exhaust with much better spacing. Second car from back.

That manual car doesn't have Sport Chrono package. It's possible with the addition of Sport Chrono, you may get the steering wheel ****. Just a thought.

Based on what I've read the C2/C2S will have the dual center exhausts and the C4/C4S models get the quads but not positive. From that pic it does look like the quad exhaust car is a wide body.

Not just the screen but the entire new PCM system... supposed to have multi-touch, hand writing recognition, etc. You know, all of the stuff you could get in a BMW/Audi two years ago.
