I have a CPO 2013 C4s and bought it 2/17. The production date is 2/13 and have PCM v4.73. It's crashing when connecting my iPhone 8. I'm taking the car in Fri for an update...

I'm running PCM 3.1 in my 2013 981 Boxster S. Current software is 3.43. I'd like to update the software to allow installation of a back-up camera. I've talked to both of my (great) independent service shops and both acknowledge that the PCM software upgrade can only be done by a Porsche dealer service shop. I've called *every* Porsche dealership in Northern California and EACH ONE has a totally different answer as to the procedure and cost. Responses range from "no problem. $105" to "we need the car all day and cost is by the hour, probably around $600" and "I'm not sure we can do that". I was just at the Porsche Experience Center in LA and asked them the same question and their eyes rolled back in their head and they looked at their watch and hemmed and shuffled their feet and eventually responded that they had no idea what was involved. Jeeze. What is the big deal about this? Does *anyone* have the straight info on how this works? Anyone here a former Porsche dealer technician with the answer? Thanks

2015 981 Cayman GTS here running v4.74. Asked dealer to update it to fix potential bluetooth problems and they said v4.74 was latest version. I notice everyone here with v4.76 has a 911. Any 981 Boxster / Cayman owners here with higher than v4.74?

Dealer are dummy and didn't want to do it. From what I have experienced, Porsche dealers don't release information easily, they also (half the time) don't know the information themselves. Quite often they're not passed on valuable information about updates and things like that for a long long time from those above them, they have a terrible system in place. Its ODD because Audi dealers for example are much more in the know.

I have the disc that updates.

What it does is this:

If you have PCM 3.1 and version 3.xx it will update it to v3.43 (latest).
If you have PCM 3.1 and version 4.xx it will update it to v4.76 (latest).

If you're currently on v3.xx you will NOT be able to update to v4.xx.

If you get hold of the disc, you can technically do it yourself. It takes about 20 minutes and requires no technical experience. They say you should have a battery charger on the battery or a booster, just to be safe. I heard you could also start your car instead and let it tick over while doing the update, but I didn't try that since I had vehicles in a non ventilated area and I had a booster to hand.

PM me if you need more info.

Not got it in hand at the minute as its at my other place. Although I don't remember seeing a part number on it. I don't have the original sleeve/box/case to it either. I believe the part numbers are printed on this.

For 991.1 owners I am finally back to 4.76. Dealer ordered CD part # WKD-952-800-17 which is the latest SWV disc. Price was listed at $20 but they didn't charge me since I had it a few years back when I updated my Euro maps in Feb 2016 but the dealer backdated me to 4.52 by accident. They popped the CD in and had the car back to me 30 minutes later. Now showing 4.76.

By pressing SOURCE and INFO together you can get the full readout of version number and history. Pictures follow. Hope this helps someone.

Picture #1 - Cool 50th Start-Up Screen - Never gets old:

Screen #2 showing SWV 4.76 after holding SOURCE and INFO at the same time:

Screen #3
First entry was attempt by the dealer to update to 4.76, but it just reloaded 4.52 (CFG 0113). Must have had wrong disk.
Second entry was from today, 02/25/2019 with the correct disk and now showing 4.76. (CFG 0115).

Thanks Pave. That was very useful. I’d love to know what the latest map version is. As you probably know Suncoast is advertising a 2016 version, but I can’t see any detail other than a SKU number. I wonder if it’s really the 2015 version ? I know that if I buy it, Porsche will release a 2018 version a few minutes later

https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKU9X1PCM31.html

Suncoast also state that this product “Upgrades the operating software to latest version available”. I wonder if they mean it upgrades the PCM software to 4.76 as well as the maps ? Or it upgrades just the maps. My guess is the latter.

Here is one more screen shot of the Europe/Central Europe (ECE) and North American (NA) loads. I have confirmed with Suncoast, my purchasing dealer, my dealer in Stuttgart, as well as my servicing dealer that I have the latest USA maps. The line 4.74 PCM31_NA_N314_1511_P6 is the line you should have if you have the latest North America maps. I have heard there will be a NA map update soon so you may want to hold off, or try to work a deal to get a discount if you update now and then another update comes out.

what does upgrade to 4.76 do, just a map update or is there something else as well?

That 's a great question. The software updates are unrelated to map updates. Two different things.

I haven't been able to find a definitive document or source detailing a progression of software updates and what each of them do. About the only thing I've seen a lot of folks report is that updating to the 4.7x fixed some bluetooth issues and PCM re-starting on its own.

I'd sure love to hear from any mechanics or folks in the know who could provide some detailed information to help consumers troubleshoot issues or to understand if it's worth their time/money to get updates.

Thanks Pave. Appreciate the reference.

Did you fly the Pave Hawk ? The username and Alabama/Germany made me wonder.
