Default Spring finally arrived . . . time to break-out the GTS

The first pic below is the day I bought my GTS at the end of December. I had to leave the car at the dealership for three months, but couldn’t take the wait any longer and finally picked it up at the end of March. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t much better then (second pic). But finally, finally, spring came to the northeast, the snow has melted and I managed to take the car out for some quick pics around Boston.

I have really bonded with this car. Like most of us, I obsessed (an understatement) about the color combo and I think through shear dumb luck, I got it so right for me – Dark Blue Metallic, Blue top, Espresso/Cognac interior. With the black TurboS CLs (which I have totally embraced), I think it’s aggressive on the outside and sophisticated on the inside. Not a combo for everyone, but as I say, it really works for me. If I was reordering today, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Did I mention that the GTS is spectacular to drive? Do I need to say the GTS is spectacular? It’s spectacular. It still has under 1,000 miles, but I feel it breaking in (or maybe I’m just learning how to drive it better). But I’m lovin’ it.

Below are pics of some of my mods to date. SmartTop is by far the best bang-for-the-buck mod out there. It’s an easy must-have for anyone with a Cab. I also repurposed some speakers from my old M5 and added an amp in the frunk and a sub in the passenger footwell (that’s the sub’s control **** installed where the smoker’s pack lighter used to be).

Finally, after a lot of back-and-forth I decided on the Stinger VIP radar and laser system. This is a crazy system and it’s stupid expensive. But I’m a techie and I love this technology. The radar defense is not a detector in the traditional sense. There are sensors mounted behind the front and rear bumpers. Stinger calls them “spectrum analyzers”. They are completely undetectable by radar detector detectors, and their detection range beats anything else on the market by far. Stinger had fallen behind ALP for laser detection, but they are just now upgrading to detect the latest guns. All of this is controlled by a nice compact touch screen. It’s iPhone-simple to use and the whole system is wildly customizable. It has a GPS-based memory function and data base like Escort. All bands can be individually turned off or muted at a specified speed (I’ve set it for no audible alerts below 40 mph). The result is the quietest detector that I’ve ever had (and I live in the middle of a city with boatloads of false signals). Also, the laser system can be set to stop jamming after a specified length of time, so you don’t have to frantically reach for the switch as you’re hitting the brakes on the highway. And finally, the display shows the direction of each alert similar to Valentine1. I never understood why the V1 guys loved this feature until I got the Stinger. Anyway, it’s a great system, but it’s not for the faint of heart cost-wise.

Btw, I had all my work done by Sound in Motion in Boston. I have to give them a shout-out for being the most crazy, most **** craftsmen I’ve ever worked with. If you’re in the area and demand perfection, you should check SiM out.

hinckley you got the best interior with the best options (leather vents, center console and side trim, steering column, etc) and one of the best exterior colors to go with that interior! How you were able to leave it sitting at the dealer instead of in your garage where you could detail and drool over it every day and night I'll never know! Its good you got the GTS, you need the extra power to offset the amps and woofers! And all topped off with the latest and greatest to help you enjoy it all with as close as one can get to impunity! Just crazy good work!

Beautiful car! What are the break-in miles suggested by Porsche for a GTS?

Nice job. Beautiful car and really like the cogmac/espresso combo. Stinger is a nice, but you are right, it is crazy expensive.

Good one. Balaclava asked Porsche about this. Bookmark it. Its the RL Quote of the Millennium:
My actual delivery was pretty quick, was eager to just go driving and to learn and feel the car. I did ask about break-in, and got the following answers: “for American customers, we must recommend you to keep it below 4200rpm, for everyone else we suggest use it as you normally would: careful while cold, then flat out.” This just confirmed my earlier decision that I am not going to baby it too much, especially not while doing my trip in the Alps. Hit the rev limiter a few times every day for proper exercise.

come someone explain to me why the American P-cars need to be "broken-in" while EU cars can be driven flat out from the factory??

Lawyers, but still not a bad idea to do it.

Thanks for the nice comments guys.

Regarding break-in period, I'm in the "drive it like you stole it" camp. The only things being broken in are my hands and feet as I find the optimal way to drive this beast. It's just too much fun!!

I get pretty tired of the preening new car posts followed by the obligatory: Congratulations, bro, welcome to the club, nice car comments, but your post had useful and interesting information that made it a worthwhile read. I didn't know about the Stinger and I'm pretty sure I am going to need it. Your build is also unique and drop-dead beautiful. I have always been a fan of a Navy exterior with a luxor beige interior, but the Expresso on beige (or is it Cognac?) is a knockout. Will you post the build sheet? Yours is also the first Cab that looks good to me with the top up. What is the SmartTop? Also, what is the i-phone holder in the picture?

So anyway, let's get this over with.

Congratulations, bro. Welcome to the club I am not a member of yet (Cayman GTS traded in and 911 GTS on order). Really nice car.

Thanks!
