By "launch color" they mean the color of the car that they were showing when it was first introduced and at all the auto shows. In this case, was platinum silver from everything I've seen.

As an FYI for readers, I shipped my 991 from Chicago to Orlando last Fall and this Spring (as well as two other Porsches earlier, before owning this one. My average cost was $800 for a 1200 mile transport. I used uShip the first time and Montway the second time. I can't drive it for that. Depreciation alone would be well over $1/mile. Plus tire wear and maintenance and premium gasoline costs. And it also requires paying tolls, lodging and meals. Shipping is cheap. And I always use the opportunity to transport our extra clothes. That's an added bonus for me.

I agree with STG here, and wonder how many cars were made in each color during the half model year in 2012? I created a second thread in the 991 category asking where to find production numbers? People coveting these cars are beginning to call the 2012.5 Model year cars "The New Carrera" since it was the change over year from the 997, which also only had a 1/2 year of production in 2012. If I can land a super clean one here in the next few weeks I plan tol take it to the Porsche Werks In Monterey next month..

I doubt that '12.5 MY will have any extra allure over other 991.1s, unless maybe it is the first one off the production line. This is coming from a '12.5 C2S owner.

Personally, I would want the last-punched CPO 991.1 since it should have all the bugs worked out, and have the longest warranty

There were other such colors in launches in other markets beyond Europe. Besides, I have NEVER heard of the color the car used at Frankfurt or Geneva or any other car shows as hold ANY kind of value over any other car, of any make.

There is nothing special about the 2012.5 over a 2013 - mechanically and visually identical. You aren't talking about the spit window in the '63 Vette. Nobody is calling the 2012.5 model year "The New Carrera" except those who are looking at the build sheets to distinguish it from the 997 which was also being produced earlier in the year.

I'm not trying to rain on any one's parade but there is simply nothing special about a 2012.5 - same car as the 2013 except it didn't have the "jukebox" and a few other options weren't available yet. Launch cars aren't special, either - there were merely early PNCA-specified builds meant to demonstrate certain new options. Many of them sat on dealer lots as demos. I cannot see any of these being of more value over other similarly equipped 2012.5s or 2013s.

Now 20 years from now, might someone value the earliest run of a 991? Perhaps...but that is a long way off.

^ this. Nothing wrong with the 2012.5 Carrera....just nothing special about it. And nothing special about platinum silver, either.

And this coming from the former owner of a 2012.5 launch car.

2011 Frankfurt Autoshow...the new 991 debuted in dark blue (whatever the official color was) - check out the video.

(You will find silver ones at the show, too, of course, and especially in press materials for the introduction. Porsche loves silver LOL, especially for photos!)

BTW all that makes the 2012.5 991's "not special" compared to a 2013 works the other way, too - nothing that would prevent me from considering a low mile, well maintained, good condition 2012.5 991, either. They are solid cars! Any of the early model jitters (COV's, I'm looking at you) will have been most likely solved a long time ago.

A 2012.5 991 is a great buy!

Agreed. Nothing to romanticize about on any year or color. PTS gets some more excitement, but that's about it.

Porsche releases no numbers on colors, but as standard colors go, they're all good and nothing special.

I have 2012.5 in GT Silver which I've only seen 1-2 others, but doesn't make it any more special in value. Although, I think I have the only Sport Design Package on a 2012.5 (added after the fact )

That's worth big $$$

I think this whole value thing is kind of getting out of hand. It's just nice that we're in a good spot that looking forward depreciation is very reasonable. Hard to find in any car, especially sports cars. The cost of ownership is very favorable compared to getting into any brand new model.

In the not to distant past, these cars were depreciating $1K a month. A lot less now depending what you have and how long you want to keep it for.

The 2012.5 PCM has items lacking that was added to later cars. Cannot check text messages, no juke box (as hurricane pointed out), the dashboard dial screen does not show mpg and miles to empty). Was backup camera ever standard on later 991.1?

At least the WC43 campaign meant you got 8 new changeover valves.

Regarding Platinum Silver, I think it was discounted afterwards. Maybe that is why it is rarer. The local SA who sold my CD asked me what color it was when I showed my newly bought HFS 991.1.... And he should have known lol

Backup camera never standard, but able to add on easily with an aftermarket harness 2013 and later. The 2012.5's have a previous PCM version missing a few things.

I really don't need a camera on the car anyway. But just some added information.

The previous owner added a back-up camera to my '12.5 and I am so grateful!

A. I like to back into parking spots
B. The visibility is terrible when backing up
C. Even bumping something (esp another car) will be an expensive/stressful repair

My C2S has this if you mean range. The PCM is definitely quirky when it comes to streaming music via Bluetooth

Yeah, my 2012.5 991S had miles left to empty (range) if I recall correctly.

My mistake. I forgot that I configured the upper line to show compass since the range to empty was already showing on the display. Only difference is the mpg. Sunday morning half awake. First pic CD, second 991.1
