to join or not to join..?
what are the advantages of becoming a paid member of this forum as opposed to a guest? am from uk, thanks. - am being serious by the way??!!!

I used to pay; the biggest advantage (back then) was access to the excellent 'off topic' forum which, politically at any rate, was an absolute hoot.

Biggest advantage is if you want to sell something some day.
|
It's a nominal fee. I pay it simply to support the site. It's the least I can do being that I use RL so much and find the site so helpful and enjoyable. I have never accessed the Off-Topic board (first I've heard of it, in fact) and have never sold anything on RL.

An important aspect of membership is the stature it confers, with the privilege of complaining about non-members.

Does paid membership erase the ads? If so, it might be worth. Rennlist doesn't exist without people posting to its forum. The only member benefit I see is the classifieds. But I can go to Pelican and advertise for free. Not slamming Rennlist, just trying to figure out also why people would pay.

You get "some" credibility w/other members w/o a credit check......ha ha

Guess it all depends on if it's of value to you. I've gotten quite a bit of good information from this board, therefore I pay the nominal fee.

That said let's not forget that this site is ad supported and its members are the ones generating impressions making the parent company $$$. It is not as if Rennlist is being run by some guy from his basement scraping together two nickels to cover server costs or whatever... :D http://www.internetbrandsauto.com/ |
Oh, and access to the IHI Thread.
|
OP: I think you need to include your accountant in this decision, and look at the cost/benefit analysis a little closer. I think I've pulled the trigger on that way to early. My advise is you stick around for a couple of years (around 5-10) and see what value the site brings you. There is nothing worse than rushing into an investment, and not have that cash laying around if you need it.

If one starts ones' own forum, said person can dictate rules and regulations of personal site..................................membership may be questionable.
|
I've saved a ridiculous amount of money reading the forums so a few dollars for the cause seemed logical.
