European Delivery Experience - Carrera S
#17
Thanks for the kind words everybody. Yes my username is supposed to sound funny, thanks for noticing. I've been using that "handle" ever since I first browsed the internet back in 1994. It's a bit juvenile but it seems to pass the test for using such things as it sound innocuous enough.
Anyway, before diving into more of the ED experience I figured I'd post some of the more interesting cars we came across and had a chance to photograph. Not all of them were Porsche's so apologies in advance for not keeping with the overall 911/991 thread.
The 918 Spyder was captured at a autohof just outside of Baden Baden. My kids went barrelling through the gift shop to get me out of the pay toilet to make me photograph this awesome machine. Apparently the owner just casually parked it between a wagon and mini-van and smiled to the crowd of onlookers and went inside to grab a coffee. Just like it was an ordinary car.
The GT3 with the Martini stripes was parked inside the parking garage of the Mercedes Benz museum. Very tight spaces and almost no room to maneuver. I was totally sweating parking my car in this garage until I saw this car.
The Ferrari F12 was at the Hockenheim ring where we attended the F1 race. Also behind it is a 911 speedster. The first time I had seen one of those in person.
The Tesla's on the Supercharger station was somewhere on the A7 going towards Nuremburg I think. That was the first time I had seen an actual Supercharger station in action. For what it's worth, all four of those cars were there when we got to the Autohof. We got gas, used the restroom, ate our lunch and browsed the gift shop for Gummi Bears and were back on the road in about 40 minutes. When we left, all four of the cars were still charging.
The BMW i8 was at the Hockenheim ring parking lot and it attracted a lot of attention. People were getting out of their cars in the rain to take a picture of it. It actually looked pretty cool up close.
I'll post some more tomorrow about the actual ED experience, but I figured you folks would be interested in some of these other machines

Sounds like you had a great time. I suspect your kids may have been the first EVER that were excited about telling their new class what they did over the summer.

Yes, the kids have been telling everyone that will listen what they did over the summer.
Apparently the guy you want to get to do the handoff in Zuffenhausen is Tilmann. He's the guy in the ED delivery brochure showing the impeccably dressed model couple how to load their luggage in their 911 cab. He came out when we turned the car in at the end of July and we had a brief chat. He was there during our handoff but was helping another US couple next to us take delivery of their car. My wife said he was much more authentic than Louis, although Louis was just fine.

Always great to read about other peoples Euro Delivery experience! I returned from my 2 week Euro Delivery in my Turbo Cab last week; it's a truly amazing experience that should be done, find an excuse!
You were brave to take the little ones! My wife and I left the little buggers at home and had some peace and quiet for a change; although 3 little kids wouldn't exactly fit in the back of a 991!
You are lucky about the VAT! The dealer made me pay it, I hope it returns soon.
For anyone even on the fence about taking the time and expense for Euro Delivery, just read peoples posts and see how great of a time was had. On my trip we got to drive the Grimsel, Susten, Furka, Stelvio and Fern Passes; also the Black Forest Highway---amazing drives-- made even better by the fact that the weather so so stunning I got to put to top down for all of them! Totally unexpected for late September. My wife loved the drives because the scenery was stunning. She even started to get into waving to other Porsches!
FYI; in Stuttgart from late September to mid October there is a great beerfest called Canstatter Volksfest. It's like Oktoberfest in Munich only smaller with less tourists and puking. It's great fun, right next to the Mercedes Museum.

For sure less puking! It's still a party in the big tents, but so much different from Oktoberfest in Munich. I have been to Oktoberfest 3 times in last 5 years, and Wasen the last 2 years; Wasen gets my vote any day. In Munich everyone its blitzed and puking. We reserved a table in Stuttgart last week in one of the beer tents and had a blast with the locals. Everyone kept asking, "you're Americans, why are you here?"
