WSJ today re new 911

Check out the WSJ today(9/5/14) page A7 regarding the upcoming weekend edition "Dan Neil takes a spin in the latest 911 from the Italian icon...." LOL

Larry Cable 09-05-2014 02:11 PM

online link?

Sporty 09-05-2014 03:05 PM

Sorry, read it in hardcopy during lunch. Its just an ad for the W/E edition content and doesn't say much more so pick it up today to see and tomorrow to read the full article and/or try WSJ.com (although I did not see the ad reference there, but, did not spend much time looking)

no worries, great online article in WSJ about Singer 911's ...

chuck911 09-05-2014 03:13 PM

It'll be on-line, for $. They may have messed up with "Italian icon" but they were pretty accurate when the 991 first came out, beginning with "Porsche's approach to the 911 is "perfect, rinse, repeat"—which is to say, introduce a new edition of its famous sports car, and over the years of the product cycle squeeze more and more bloody glamouring intoxicants out of it until there's no more to be had, and then start over with a new-generation 911" then concluding with, "This car is a work in progress? More like an unfinished masterpiece."

This article looks like it will be complimentary as well; the full text reads:

Your Own Personal Porsche
"Dan Neil takes a spin in the latest 911 from the Italian icon, a car so expertly designed it feels as if it were tailored for you."

Its the Italian reference part I found amusing unless i am missing somthing-body design? as if by an Italian tailor? or just misprint/error ? We'll see tomorrow-maybe it will be in the corrections...

This says it perfectly:

"A couple of mornings I caught myself skipping out to the car."

He calls his car the one (and only) name that belongs on a vanity plate: Rosebud!

chuck911 09-05-2014 06:17 PM

"First, it has a seven-speed manual transmission, with a clutch pedal that the driver must operate with the left foot to engage and disengage the running engine from the drivetrain during gearshifts. This is affected by way of a mechanical-hydraulic linkage and a single clutch, somewhat like the new Studebaker (I'm kidding, there is no new Studebaker).":roflmao: Oh man, that is the best description of the menial transmission ever! :roflmao:

I wonder how many members are old enough to get that reference.

"And yet there it is: I want, I would only have, the manual transmission."

"The weird thing is, almost everybody who drives a 911 for any length of time feels the same way. If you aren't freakishly huge, or wee, the car feels almost as if it was tailored for you."
