Curious if you applied any film to protect the rear bumper cover area just in front of the rear wheels???
I think the weight is negligible but in theory that may be true. It's all about the aesthetics. Without them, the wheels look too tucked in for my taste. I really struggled about getting the factory 5mm ones. I don't think they make much of a difference and are more expensive. The only benefit to the factory ones is that they come with a wheel lock. I also have 7mm front and 15mm rear. Luckily I've had little issue with chipping. I think if you live somewhere like the Northeast or an area with lots of gravel it may be more of an issue. But it does make the car look so much better in my opinion, especially because 911's get so much wider in the back. It accentuates it. If you ever look at a GT3 you see it has a much more aggressive offset as well.
Actually I am referring to the area behind the rear wheel NOT in front of... With 15mm on the rears you'll get a lot of road rash along the underside of the rear bumper cover, where it wraps down under the side mufflers... At least that is my experience on my C4S. Sorry I wasn't clearer in previous post.
