I just tell people I am driving it to keep the car fresh and battery charged up for my buddy while he's away..what else can they say then?

No harm, no foul and minimizes the chance of the occasional snarky comment that can lead to no good ending with strangers who may seem nice initially but then suddenly turn on you .

If they persist, I just say I am not into cars ....Porsches in particular.

If I'm asked how much the car cost, I reply with a sickly drooling leer - "Dunno, I stole it an hour ago. Would you like a ride ?"

"I don't know, my wife paid for it." The subject should change after that.

You can also say, if you're not divorced, that it is the money you saved by keeping the original wife!

If they ask me how I can afford it, I reply "years of hard work and good choices."

Really, it's none of their business!

As the owner of numerous high line cars, including 6 Ferrari's and 4 Porsche's over the last 3 decades, I have been asked the "how much" question many times. My response has always been, let me know if you're looking for one and I can hook you up with a good one for sale. Unless they are really looking to buy one, that always brings a moment of silence and a change of subject.

Funny this topic comes up at this time..............

Last week an acquaintance reminded me that when he asked me that question after I bought my new 87 911, I told him that...... "it was the college tuition of my first born and his brother".

We have no children
