This will probably get it off. Just don't spray it on your wheel weights.

I would try 1Z Colour Tech http://www.autogeek.net/1z-colourtec-wheel-cleaner.html but you'll also need a wheel brush to agitate it to loosen the brake dust. http://www.autogeek.net/ezdebrfca.html. These products are available at several online retailers but AG gives the best description and instructions on how to use them, thus the reason I typically link to their site. They all have sales on a regular basis so wait for at least -15% off before pulling the trigger.

Pull the wheels. You'll need the leverage for your elbow grease.

My dealer said a medium 3M scuffy pad and soap and water. Seems to work.

Yikes! That's like using sandpaper. You might want to get your detailing advice elsewhere. Dealers don't know much about detailing.

try a good wheel cleaner like Sonax or P21S. Then dry the rim and use car polish (start with least aggressive and work your way up as needed) And at the end, put a good sealant on the rim (Menzernas FMJ or PowerLock or whatever it's called now). Always make sure your rims and brakes are cool/cold before cleaning them, never clean hot wheels!
Good luck!

Do NOT follow the dealer's advice of using 3M scotchbrite--they are unreal

Mr, Clean scrubbing pads work great with any aluminum safe wheel cleaner and they do not scratch

Noooooo! Wheels have clear coat on them too, you know.

Just use Einszett colortec or Sonax wheel cleaner and a wheel brush. Spray it on, let it soak for a few minutes, then use a large helping of elbow grease. The suggestion about pulling your wheels off is a good one. It'll help you manhandle that brake dust.

When you're all done, then you can put a nice coat of wax on your wheels to help prevent this in the future.
