Future standard Carrera S...turbo?
 

New Macan S = Turbo
2014 Panamera S = Turbo
Upcoming Cayanne S = Turbo.

It appears that Porsche is slashing displacement and turbocharging all the engines in its line up. Is the 911 next? Panamera obtained a turbo V6 in place of its V8 during the upcoming mid cycle refresh. Could the 991.2 see a 3.0L turbo in the Carrera S? And a 2.7L turbo in the base? If not the 991.2 then surely 992. Also, I can forsee a 2.0L turbo in a base boxter/cayman and a 2.7L turbo in the boxter/cayman S. Fuel savings and emissions are obviously the driving factors as well as higher taxation brackets for larger displacement engines. China has revised its displacement taxation scale and now heavily penalizes engine sizes above 3.0L

Youre right this trend will prob continue. I do think the box/cayman would be the first. Perhaps an F-4???

In the 991, I bet a diesel precedes a Turbo.

Porsche an do anything on the other models except our beloved 911. They can't use the iconic turbo script logo on any other 911 except the turbo/turbo S imo. They just have to keep making NA engines. I could be completely wrong.

Yikes, what does Porsche know about how to make a turbo perform? Next they will get rid of solid lifters. :rolleyes:

I'll bet they add an electric motor in the 992.

They'll have to unfortunately.... Electric motors and turbochargers will become common in all future Porsches.
They are simply forced to go that way by the EU environmental laws they have to meet. Look at the yesterday introduced new Ferrari California, that now also has a Turbocharged engine. 458 successor will follow.

I think it's inevitable....

Reading tests of the Mclaren P1 I can certainly see it happening soon. Integrated electric + smaller displacement turbo engines. Something to look forward to!

They may have to slow those things down.

The Macan, Cayenne and Panamera don't have 50 years of history they need to defer to.

The 911 does.

For that reason alone, I think Porsche will do what it has long done, which is offer a N/A engine in the standard car. You can upgrade to the Turbo, like you always could.

They can skirt the EPA/efficiency fuel standards by offering small displacement/hybrid/electric engines on Macans, Cayennes and Panameras.

I think they won't add electrics/hybrids to the 911 mix. On the other hand, if they do, all previous N/A cars will be worth that much more.

Wouldn't a flat-4 from a Subaru have made more sense?

the trend is bad. the result is gutless cars, especially after the engines begin to wear out.

but, it's always pretty much been this way with Euro cars/and their high maintenance.

again, virtually all production cars mostly, are cheap on displacement, cylinders and hp....

things had been improving slightly, but now it's going in the ****ty direction again.

I'd like to see a lightweight front engine/transaxle with like, a 3.8 litre I-5like the Hummer H3 + turbo.

about 430 hp and 3,100 pounds.

but, Porsche will never do it.
