Check out the Laguna Seca lap times from MT, you'll see that the Vette is faster than the 911. 1:38.28 for the Vette and 1:39 for the 911.

I wouldn't say that's a very meaningful difference in the decision process to own either car.

It is for those people that care more about numbers they can talk about than they do about the actual driving experience. If you listen to what they said about how those numbers were achieved, it is clear that the 911 is a far superior car (which it should be, given the price difference).

Would you say that then about the F12 Berlinetta? Which it should be, given the price difference right?

legend you seem to be missing the key point, which came first: the actual driving experience. In writing we traditionally place parenthetical comments (about for example things that would go without saying if we were certain the reader had the writers understanding) inside parentheses. The actual driving experience. For the 911, its reason for being. For the rest, something you just have to endure.

Actually the Porsche driving experince that you referance is not restricted to the 911. It certainly is found on the 981, and I expect most if not all of Porsche's models. The driving experience however, is both a blessing and a curse. Once you've experienced it, it ruins you for other cars. I had the pleasure of driving a friend's M3 for example, which is about at the same price point as a Cayman S. The M3 is certainly a fine car, but it just doesn't provide the driving experience of a Porsche.

No it does not. And what a rediculous engine choice. Cayman performance at almost half the fuel economy. And while I don't relish the thought of post warranty 911 repair bills, BMW has totally and completely lost my trust in that area. I'll bet on the longevity of a 991/981 over a BMW any day, and when it comes time to fix the big stuff, or even some of the smaller stuff, BMW will shock and awe you more than Porsche will for many things.

Maybe the new M will go back to a proper straight 6 but even if it does it'll probably be some ridiculously over engineered tri-turbo delicate genius of an engine with a block made of paper mache and a glass head bolted on with one use rhino horn screws.

I actually very much appreciate the concept of the M, especially the M3. A "regular" looking almost super car that doesn't attract too much attention. I like that, a lot. I looked hard at them. But the motor in it was just stupid and I've had more than enough of the shark tank service departments with the little dudes in lab coats and clip boards and their never ending repair recommendation bills that would make the Pentagon blush.

I'd lease a BMW anyday, if I were going to lease, which I don't like for its own reasons. But I don't see myself buying one ever again.

Also, the boxster and 911 get the same performance rating. To put in perspective how inept these ratings are, the GT-R has the same performance rating as the boxster, and both are lower than the vette.

Seriously? I thought this subject died out after I called it out as a corporate social media campaign on Porsche owners on Rennlist. Lame.
