Need opinion: replace my 993 w 991?
I need some opinions regarding selling my 97 C2 for a 50th anniversary 991. Has anyone here gone this route(991)? And if so would you do it again or have you regretted it.
I find myself driving the 993 less each year as its not as comfortable for anything but short drives for me. I'm 6'4" and have a bad hip which makes long journeys a painful proposition. I found a good deal on a 50th and may go for it as its a special car and fits me quite better. I really enjoy the raw driving feel and overall design of the 993 but may drive the 991 a lot more. Also - would the 50th anniversary model hold its value better than a standard C2S? Thoughts and opinions appreciated.

I ordered a 991 because it's smoother, more comfortable, more powerful, has more modern conveniences and with PDK will be a better daily driver than my 993 4S.
But my 993 isn't going anywhere! Food for thought.

I think the new 991 would fit you very well. The 430 HP 50th should feel like a rocket ship compare to your current 282 HP's.
The 50th should hold a slight premium over a C2S in the years to come. But depreciate significantly faster than your current 993, a very special car indeed.
Go test drive one soon.
Getting a special price on the 991-50 is rare, too.

Thanks for input. I have driven a few 991s and the 50th anniversary model. They are definitely more spacious and so much faster. In your experience are they mundane at all at normal speeds. The 993 can be a challenge at sane speeds and very entertaining. Do you find yourselves driving the 991 at supra legal speeds for it to be fun?

Having had a 993 for 7 years before getting my 991S, I would say that in terms of driving involvement, the 993 was better and gave me more of a thrill. I find myself driving the car in Sport Plus mode all the time bc in any other mode, the car feels a little bland.
If you can have both, I would highly recommend that you do so.
The 993 feels and drives like an oversized go kart whereas the 991 is a lot more sanitised.

When I had a PDk 991s to test drive for a weekend, I drove the car in all modes. I only drove it in manual shift mode and found that there is a definite difference between sport and sport plus. When engaging sport plus from sport, the engine mapping sounds different, the shifts up and down are more aggressive. Never drove it in auto mode so cannot comment on that.

What BradB said times 10 !!
I would try to swing both. Owning any air-cooled car is pretty much a stable, if not appreciating, asset.
I too am 6'4". You should sit in all the seat options you can. The bolstering on the Sport Seats may be to tight or just what you need. I don't know what you consider long journeys, but variable suspensions and nearly 20 years of refinement give the checkmark to the 991.
As far as looks, it took nearly 20 yrs of designing to come back to what I consider a 993 "evolved" look and sound. I miss my 993 everyday, if just to look at.

To answer your original question when looking at the historical anniversary edition prices, none seem to have held their value any better than the normal versions.
The anniversary editions are merely marketing tools with "limited" production.
I had a 993 C4S that I sold (not replaced by the 991). Selling it was one of my biggest automotive regrets. But with you being 6'4" I can fully understand you feeling cramped.
My 991 is markedly more spacious, but if possible I'd seriously consider keeping both.

Danny Kaye had a routine that had a character who was a spy. The spy was about 5'2". Danny said the spy was really over 6'. When asked how the spy could appear so much shorter. He replied "special shoes". If you can get a pair of these shoes, I'd keep the 993. I love my 991 C2S cab but I wish I had sold it instead of the 993tt.

Thanks again for all of your thoughts. I just came home from a family trip to NYC and took my 993 out for a flogging around some deserted farm roads. I'm not quite ready to relinquish this car and its analog driving experience yet. I'll take a pass on the 991-50 and look for a used base or S over the next year to compliment the 993. In meantime i'll keep looking for those special shoes. Thanks again and happy motoring!

Smart move!
I've driven both a 2009 Carrera S and a 2013 Carrera 4; both of which I wouldn't consider trading my '06 C4S/X51 for. While the 991 is certainly more refined, the gear throw is long, and while it's quieter, I came away from it saying to myself, "meh".
If you want a modern car with some amenities and a less sanitized feel, consider holding out for a 991 GT3--to me it seems like the best of all worlds.
