2014 C7 Z51 vs 2014 991S

According to this review the C7 is an outstanding sports car at an incredibly low price. I know that most Porsche buyers don't cross shop vettes, but it's always good to get to know the competition.

How many c7 vs 991 are we going to keep doing ?
Might throw in another MT vs PDK as well for good measure.

^^Very funny.

Nothing wrong with a Vette if it does it for you. It just doesn't for me.

I agree. If I were to buy the C7 I'm certain that I would be accused of going through a mid life crisis. Somehow it doesn't seem to apply to a Porsche. The C7 looks like an outstanding performance car at a really great price, but it's not for me.

Why is it even still around?

Oh goody. Here we go again :)

The more I see pictures, especially of the back side of that Corvette, the less I like it...

If you can afford a 991 you are most likely not a C7 Vette buyer.

Don't get me wrong, GM has come a long way over the past 10 years. I had to get rid of my Escalade at 75k miles because it was falling apart in my hands though literally and I loved that truck. I also drive my 96 Impala from time to time during the week. I can't stand driving my Prius at all. Awful.

My wife is not a car person, drives in a world of her own and doesn't care what she is driving as long as there is gas in it and it has working A/C. When she wanted a new wagon years ago I bought her a new V70R because if I had to drive it I wanted the Volvo halo wagon.

Bottom line is the first time my wife was with me in the 991 911 she looked over at me and said " this car feels like money." To be honest she doesn't even know what I paid for it. She never said that about her new Escalade.

I couldn't see dropping $70k on the new vette because it still feels like plastic and at the end of the day even if it runs the Nurburgring a few seconds faster than my 991. Who cares.

Two totally different buyers.

For the record I have owned a couple of Corvettes before. Also an IROC Camaro but we won't talk about that.:D

I think I can summarize for you based on the numerous other threads just like this one.

1. Some people prefer the Corvette.
2. Others prefer the Porsche.
3. Some like both.

CaliforniaZombie 11-03-2013 01:35 PM

Thank you - well said. Two different buyers for sure, perhaps in addition to preferences. I won't be buying a corvette in this lifetime or any other, and I would imagine I'm not the only one with that sentiment on here. The only corvette i'd even remotely be interested in is a '67 Sting Ray.

My father had his 67 stolen right under my bedroom window in Pasadena when I was 3 years old. He was still a student at Cal Tech.

You can get a 67 with the 427 and I'll pick up a 63 Split window and we can cruise PCH through Crystal Cove and Laguna and choke everyone out with our noxious fumes!

CaliforniaZombie 11-03-2013 01:50 PM

Oh geeeeeeez he must have been mad as hell! Wow that's nuts - and so unfortunate. I'm assuming he didn't get it back?

hahahah yeah - some fumes and obnoxiously loud engines might be good for our neck of the woods now and then :)

I don't consider this "article" flattering for the Corvette... and that's all a failure of GM corporate.

If GM wants to move beyond the "for the price" association with the Corvette, then GM should really stop comparing the Corvette to the 911. And, make no mistake, all of this comparison of the Corvette to the 911 is GM's doing.

Because, as this "article" clearly states, in ENGLISH, the 911 is a higher quality product and a more fun product to use than the Corvette beyond "for the price".

Why does GM corporate push these comparisons between the 911 and the Corvette when they continue to lose? And, beyond the "for the price" category, they lost in this "article". The question is really a head scratcher to me.

The only answer to the question that makes any sense at all to me is that GM is seeking "success by association" with a better product... which I personally find a fundamentally sad technique and one the Corvette doesn't deserve because it's a fun machine in it's OWN way.

Bottomline, as this "article" proves, GM does Corvette a disservice by pushing the idea that their Corvette product is comparable to Porsche's 911 product.

Just read the "article".
