Does Your PDK Hesitate from Standing Start?

Much has been discussed lately about there being a throttle hesitation from a standing start with the PDK. This poll is intended to try and narrow it down to model year and when built to see if there's any correlation.

Gotta wait till August 9, on vacation right now. 2014 C4S but IIRC I think there may be some hesitation

I don't own a PDK, but I had this happen on a test drive of a new Cayman S a couple of weeks ago. I also noted a slight delay between pressing the paddle and the actual shift - I found it annoying...YMMV. Frankly, though, I'm not that impressed with PDK so I'm planning to order one with 6MT (after we close on our new house).

My shifts are delayed until the engine is at temp and I engage sport or sport+. Big difference and it drives me nuts until I get up to temp.

Does anyone have a video or link to clarify what is meant by delay? I found this to be subjective and would like to compare to a standard before I vote.

A video isn't going to help unless you have data acquisition to show the timing, and a "standard" what? It is as compared to a direct mechanical linkage, which is instantaneous. The actual PDK shift doesn't occur until some time after you press the paddle - assumably, the processors are taking time to decide what action to take.

The delay is short, but noticeable - I think it's about 2-300 msec (about 1/4 sec). If you don't notice it, it's probably better that you don't dig in and find something that will annoy you once you know it's there.

This is distinct from the hesitation on WOT starts - which is the issue the poll is asking about.

SanibelSpeed,

Great poll.

I think that your choices (#3,#4) need to be corrected to read:

Yes....mine is MY2014 built in 2013
No.....mine is MY2014 built in 2013

Thanks for starting this.

How about my MY2013 built in 2013?

Early adopters of MY2012s don't count? ;)
Not sure I understand this PDK delay issue anyway - it's the purpose of a clutch to slip initially to allow the engine to build some revs, just like a torque converter. The harder you hit the gas, the higher the revs build before the clutch is fully engaged which may lead to the perception of hesitation.
Wish I could drive a car with this "problem" to compare it to mine. I don't feel mine has any delay, not that I'm particularly overwhelmed with the power of the 3.4l in the first place!

Sorry, I screwed up: Third & fourth options should have read, "Built in 2013". I've added a note to the OP and I've asked the mods to edit it for me as I can't.

SanibelSpeed 08-03-2013 09:12 PM

Eek! I just noticed I made a HUGE typo: Shud have read MY2013 built in 2013, not 2014. Now what? Can't edit the poll. Damn!

Bocatrip 08-03-2013 09:33 PM

Although I cannot contribute to the poll, after inquiring with Porsche of North America, I was told they are aware of hesitation issues with the 991S with PDK.
