Default Maintenace and detail?...try three black beauties

My wife our metallic black Mini Cooper to go shopping (which I just finished detailing) but the condition of the other two vehicles can tell you what a maintenace dedication you need to do this every week.

BTW- The paint on the BMW is 7 years old (2006) next to the 2013 991.

Good for you, I think one black car is good enough for me. My other fun car is silver and I waxed that once every three years, not because it needs it b/c I feel guilty. I waxed my black 997 twice a year to keep swirls away.

When I had my black R8 it needed to be washed several times a week. I guess because Sanibel is an island and the ocean salt and fine sand is in the air.

What's the difference between the Metallic Black and Standard Black? Any difference in how hard they are to keep clean?

Your cars are beautiful. I mean BEAUTIFUL. Can you please tell us a little about how you take care of them? (e.g. wash without water, hand wax bi-weekly, etc.)

Thank you!

For what it's worth, I have one of each. The metallic one doesn't show the dust as much. The basic black shows one flea poop like a 13 year old's first pimple.

The 7 year old M Coupe needed a full color correction last year. I got the name of one of the best detailers on the east coast. He was unbelievable. He spent 17 hours on the detail and I spent about 13 of those hours with him learning as much as I could about detailing.
Because of him I now have a CS spotless water deionizer which I will not wash a car without using. I use a mild soap with a microfiber towel to wash the car which it has been wet down real well with the deionized water. Once I finish the cleaning, using different towels for different sections of the car, I dry with a leaf blower.
On the 991, I used a sealant which I applied three times over three days. After the sealant I will use wax over the cleaned surface the next time I wash. With black, the deionized water leaves no stains whatsoever. I've learned that the secret to the shine is the condition of the clear coat. You have to avoid the scratches and swirls in the clear if you want the car to shine. I do no "touch up" cleaning. After the car is clean, I use it and if it gets dirty in a few spots, I leave it that way. I would rather not try to clean them and damage the clear. What I do now is when the car is just a little dirty, maybe just dusty, I wash the car without water per se. I put polymer into a bucket of deionized water and wash a section of the car and dry it with another towel. Then do another section. The polymer is made by Optimum. It's terrific stuff.
I can tell you that since I have changed my cleaning technique over this past year, the M Coupe has almost virtually no scratches or swirls. Hopefully that's the way the 991 will be. My Mini Cooper is in the same condition.

With my last GT3, I had the car in metallic seal grey. Beautiful color and never showed a swirl or a scratch. It was a special color at the time. I don't think Porsche offers that anymore.
