Did anyone else like their 997 better than their 991?

I prefer the more "subtle" styling of the 911 over the GT-S (it will get you tons of attention), but it is a great looking car.

The 911 should have stayed smaller and worked on becoming lighter. As for electronic aids for incompetent drivers...a drivers school would be a better design feature.

Traded my 2009 997.2 for the 2014 911/50. Both PDK. I can't think of anything the 991 isn't better at. Steering feel MIGHT go to 997. Other than that the 991 is faster/smoother/handles/brakes better/way way more comfortable. 997.2=very good. 991/50=next level. This is my 4th new 911. 2 MT and 2 PDK. Each one is better than it's predecessor. Although this will be my last new 911 I have no doubt the next will be better.

It's a tough call. The 997 is more raw than the 991. The 991 is far more luxurious and GT but better wrt performance.
It's certainly a trend in evolution, they just keep getting better.
The 996 was terrible in all ways (IMHO). Probably the worst 911 ever built.
The 997.1 was a step-up, great car, great sound, crap interior and cabin-tech.
The 997.2 a great car, better interior, cabin-tech, terrible sound.
The 991 seems to have corrected all past mistakes from water cooled era, including sub-par interior and cabin-tech and also making it more "comfy". Although cabin-tech still blows compared to its other German cousins.
The thing is, the 997 holds an interesting place in history. This may not matter much, but it is truly the last 911 to ever be built where you can actually see the motor without dismantling the entire rear of the car. I think there is something to be said about that, perhaps in 20 - 30 years.
As much as I loved my 997s, I'm in the market for a 991S or 4S MT personally. Anyone have a nice Rhodium or Agate garage queen they want to sell me???

Coming from a 09 997 TT to a 19 991.2 GTS, can't really think of anything that the 997 does better, maybe just a bit faster in straight line and that's pretty much it.

48 years ago I drove my first 911, and now on Porsche #43 (and car # 471 that I can remember), I have 4 Porsche's right now. I find a discussion like this interesting, because the assumption is that everyone drives and uses their cars in the same way. I learned to drive on a three on a tree (many of you have probably never driven or maybe seen one), there was no such thing as traction controls or drive by wire. Infotainment was a AM radio, them we got FM, and finally an 8 track. You speak of what car is better on a track, for some of you that is important, for others it is updated technology (spend an hour driving a modern car like a 4C you will appreciate any creature comfort), you all have different reasons for owning or liking one car (or brand over an other) more than another one. I am a bit different as my cars all require some purpose for me to own them. might be my summer valet car, or my winter fun car (991 C4S with Alpin winter tires), and my winter cars go into storage from April to Nov. Yup I am old and though I was once good enough behind the wheel to be asked to go pro numerous times, but old age and arthritis have robbed me of most of my skills. The truth is that in almost any form any 911 from the last 15 years (this can be said for almost any sports car), is far more capable than 95% (I am being generous) of its owners, and unless you are on a track will probably never be used to anywhere near its limits, nor should it be. I have made this point on ferrarichat as well, what I hear more often is talk about a cars amenities rather than its capabilities. That is the modern world I guess, I recently read that in 2017 only 28% of 17 year old's got their drivers license, back when I was that age to not have it would have made you odd. Technology can be a great thing, but I always make sure that at least a couple of the cars I own have as little of it as possible, and I find them to be the cars I want to be in alone, and just enjoy the experience of driving.

Thanks Guys,
I'm coming from 30 yrs of an old GM Muscle Car so Any Porsche will be an upgrade in creature comforts and handling. That being said This is my first Porsche and I'm more then ready-- Over the years Ive constantly upgraded every aspect of the other car but no matter what you do - its great in a straight line or to go to on short trips with-- but no handling to speak of -- etc. Plus I'm "Over" it--
So now its between the '09 Mezger Turbo MT vs a 991.1 CS MT
Thanks

The ‘09 TT is a bit of a unicorn. Last year of the Mezger engine and first year of the interior upgrades. Also produced in relatively small numbers due to the rescission. If it’s a nice car it’s hard to overlook.

has 60k miles on it VS a lower milage 991.1 CS - so I'm also thinking about future maintenance as well but definitely not the deciding factor

i couldn't go back to a 997 from any of my 991.1's ... but it's even more of a no-brainer if we're talking 991.2, which is just worlds ahead on so many levels.

I switched from a 997.1 Turbo with a manual transmission to a 991.1 Turbo S with PDK. I’d never go back to the 997 platform, even though I loved that car. I agree with many of the comments above; I can't think of anything that the 997 does better than the 991. The only thing that I occasionally miss about the 997 is the manual transmission.
