Just look at KIMF70s post above for proof of how HUGE the 911 has become (in some peoples minds as in reality it is 1 inch lower, ~2 inches longer and the same width as the 997).

The argument that the 991 is HUGE has no merit in reality. Easily found on the interwebz for the 997: weight 3131 lbs, length 175.63", width 71.18", height 51.18", wb 92.52".
For the 991: weight 3075 lbs, length 176.81", width 71.18", height 50.98", wb 94.46".
So everything except the wheelbase is within an inch difference, the wb is a whopping 2". If the 991 is too big, then so was the 997. 911's will never go back to the dimensions of their 80's designed air-cooled brethren.

Going from a 1986 911 into my 2013 911 the 991 does seem *huge*, but I don't mind it. It still drives in a very nimble fashion and I welcome the space for a car seat in the back .

I am really liking the 991 more and more. If I didn't have a 997.2S I'd probably buy a 991 over a 997. But the 997.2S is still fabulous. I think I slightly prefer the 997 looks and its rawness. The differences between the two are not that great (I cant "justify" writing a $40-50K check to upgrade - as I own my car). But the 991 sounds so much better and its interior is more fitting of $100K+ car. It has a dual nature - can be loud, raspy etc. in sport mode or a cruiser. Both are great in slightly different ways. I think Porsche is doing OK. I do think they have priced the 991 too high (about 5%). That's why you can get discounts etc. It brings other options into play.

991 is nicer inside but just not as fun to drive IMO as the 997. I had a 991 on order but cancelled because the 997 put a bigger smile on my face. You can't go wrong with either of course.

Totally agree, when you look at other sports car like R8 and 458, both at about 76 inches wide, whopping 4.9 inches wider than the 991 C2S.

Analogy -

I had a 2000 BMW 323i, in manual, and a 2010 335i in automatic. I liked the older BMW more in every way. Funny thing is the newer one was faster, handled better, was more comfortable, and was a hardtop convertible. However it lacked any spirit at all.

My friend just traded his 2003 M3 for a 2013 M3 and said the same exact thing.

Meanwhile, this is my first 911 and I love it, so I'm not complaining!

Listen to yourselves: The 911 as a comfortable, cruiser GT. Blasphemy! The words Cruiser and 911 should never appear in the same sentence. What next: a 4 wheel –steering GT 3? Yes. Why, yes, precisely, Gustav!

Dr. Porsche should arise from the grave, saunter the factory, and kick some sense back into the Suits that either forgot or don’t give a rat’s **** what a 911 stands for. Shame on them. And shame on you for drinking their Kool Aid.

coming from 997.1S to 991S

In favor 997
- manual transmission gear ratios were so much better in 997.1S, which made it much more enjoyable. This is my biggest gripe. How else do you explain same quarter mile ETs for 991S and 997.1S despite 45HP advantage and a few less pounds of weight.
- steering was a bit better on 997 but in all honesty I don't miss it all that much

In favor of 991
- exhaust (non-PSE) sounds much better - love it!
- a little nicer looking in and out, less road noise is welcome
- stiffer suspension which I like (sport package wasn't an option on 997.1S at the time), but I've not had it at the track. While stiffer, it is less harsh which is good.
- I've not taken it to the track so I can't really comment on at the limit handling... but what I will say is that my 997.1S's balance was superb on stock PASM suspension and aftermarket wheels/R888 combo (although it did roll a bit more than I cared for).

All in all, I am happy with 991S but in hindsight was not worth upgrading from my 997.1S.

As someone who drives ~90 miles per day (mostly highway), I can say with confidence that there's not one think I liked better about my prior 997.1 or 997.2 than my current 991. I suppose the steering was objectively better in the 997, although I honestly can't tell. The steering feel on the 991 still feels fantastic and if nobody had mentioned that it changed, I honestly wouldn't have noticed. I think the gearbox is improved, the exhaust note is dramatically more aggressive and thrilling, the ride quality, road noise and overall comfort are vastly improved, and the fit and finish and overall quality of all interior bits is what it should have always been. Between my last 997.2 and my current 991, I drove an S4 for 9 months because the 997.2 was just too punishing to drive that many miles every day (road noise, tire hum, stiff ride). Alas, I missed the Porsche too much. The 991 remedies all of those problems and I can't imagine a better overall car. Love, love, love this 991. It is the pinnacle of engineering from the greatest auto manufacturer in Germany, which pretty much has the greatest engineers in the world. 'Nuff said. We are incredibly fortunate to be able to drive these beautiful machines. And yes, I'm a bit of a fan boy for this thing...

Perhaps at their widest they are the same. However, the 991 has less of a 'Coke bottle' shape, being wider from the front bumper back through the cabin. Along with lower seating/higher cowl with deeper dashboard, it does feel like a bigger car than the 997.

Just like a Corvette feels much bigger than a 997, even though it is shorter and only 2" wider.
