After driving the 991 for a few months and having a track day, I have to say I liked my 997 S more.

It felt more communicative....more 911esque
Didn't have the annoying parking brake
The steering was way better
Despite the shorter wheelbase, it inspired more confidence

I think when history is written, the 997 will be considered a pinnacle of driver involvement and technology

I agree. For me, the 991 C2S I had reminded me too much of a Mercedes.

Since I traded it for a 997, I've been happy again! Of course, I went for the Turbo S, so it's hard to compare!

Not me, my 991s is the only car I have owned that is better than I imagined it to be.
I couldn't be happier but to each their own.

yes me. i do like my 991s. liked my 09 C4S w/sport buckets better. 991 has injected too much luxury and perfection. not a bad thing, just not my thing. looking forward to trading back hopefully .2 GT3.

My only previous Porsche was a 2009 C4S cab with a PDK. I put $10K into upgrading the electronics in that thing (new head unit, etc) and it still felt like Space 1999. I traded it for a loaded 2013 Audi S5 Cab with Google Earth nav and all that, and that was very cool..but to upgrade the suspension on the Audi S5 was tiresome.. a 991 test-drive made that moot. It had the updated tech I desired, and with a manual transmission, didn't feel too soft or easy. The 991S cabriolet 7-speed is exactly what I was looking for between the 997 and the new Audi S5.

I am with you Nicoli35, but I do understand the 997.2 S sentiment. The 997.2S was the only 911 that could tempt me out of my 78SC. I can say that because I kept thinking about new ones- for the 30 years that I had the SC. I would have a 997.2S had I not fallen off the log and into a Boxter S RS-60 until the 991 came along. But if I was forced to give mine up, it would be to a 981 Boxter S in a heartbeat.

I went from a 997.2 S black/black MT to 991 S black/black MT. This is my 5th 911. The 991S IMHO is a much more enjoyable It definitely sounds lot better than the 997.2 and to me more connected. I will take 991S over the 997.2 on PSE alone. There re more. PDCC, chassis and perhaps the technological advancement give more confidence for me around the corners without a doubt. The interior has been a topic of interest and often a source for complaints. To me, th interior is upto date and easily navigatable. I enjoy everything about this car (perhaps electronic parking brake being the only exception)

I've had almost every MB, and am scratching my head to find anything in my 991c2s that reminds me of a MB.

I traded my 997 because it was underwhelming for a$100k car to me and did not meet my expectations. I absolutely love the 991s and feel like I finally have my expectations met. The great thing about Porsche is that there is a model/version that is perfect for every individual's tastes. Everyone enjoy driving your favorite!!

I liked the following better in my 997:
- Steering "feel": 991 has the same laser sharp steering performance but not as much mechanical feedback to your hands
- Smaller size: 991 design is much improved, but it is way too big for a sports car. Compare photos from the side with driver in car. Note how driver disappears in the gigantic 991
- Side mirrors: 991 wind buffeting noise is unbearable
Everything else is much improved. My "dream" 991 would be a low weight "R" version one or two sizes smaller with the 991 proportions. And I'd happily give up the back seat.

the 991 is nice, but two 997's then 991.. i went back to 997..

991 is too "touring" but.. when you do highway drive it's amazing... handles almost too well.. you dont even notice it because just so proper acting... the not noticing part is where it goes wrong and feels "numb"

I have a 991S and a 997.2 RS. The 991 is in the garage, ready to take the kids to school, the 997 is in the trailer, ready for a "nut and bolt" inspection before a three day weekend at Laguna Seca.

One is a the road car and daily driver -- a school bus for the two kids, and an exhilarating "executive express" for me or my wife to arrive in style or take the long way home.

The other is the track car. The 997 hasn't been smog'd (California unconstitutional usage tax) since I drove it literally directly from the showroom to the track, or registered or even properly insured for a year, and my insurer and lessor bicker over its real value, but it has 4K track miles and all it wants for is a trickle charger and it howls at the moon when I don't make it to a track day.

The 991 is the smooth cruise, long wheelbase grand tourer, the civilized and proportionate daily driver with the accouterments and the amenities expected of the Bluetooth metropolitan types.

The 997 is the car that brings a 2010-2011 driver back to the glory days of "Excellence was expected" and "There is no substitute" racing with a car that is one oily rag away from Le Mans or Daytona or Sebring. You can hear the pit crew rattling the wheels on and flooding the tank full as they wave you on to track for a stint in the endurance race of your life.

I once compared the 997.1 GT3 to the 996.2 GT3 in a back-to-bac event series at Laguna Seca. I am looking forward to the 991.1 GT3 arriving to stand up to the 997.2 GT3 RS.

Good lord. Can a GT3 out-do an RS.?! Hell. Can a GT3 out-do the RS 4.0?! Porsche itself says it is so.

So the question becomes: is it of more value to the driver of a 911 to be behind the wheel of a 997.2 RS 4.0 or the 991.1 GT3? For me, I'll soon have a 991 GT3 in the garage, and would rather the 997.2 RS 4.0. If you have an RS 4.0 in the garage, and would rather the 997.1 GT3, I'll pay you for the privilege of proving you wrong. : )
